Yesterday and Today

Got the series worldbuilding and proposal out the door yesterday; I’m really happy with it. Won’t know anything until the middle of next week at the earliest, because my editor is going to be out of town, but she acknowledged receipt and told me she’d take a look as soon as she could. That’s good enough.

I’m pulling the next Cady novel from production. Its future, based on interest in HTCB, is nonexistent. Instead, I’ll start in on the next worldbuilding novel.

Will be putting up a HAWKSPAR Edit bar, too. Have to have that finished by August.

Our local library is a faithful purchaser of your German books, that’s how I found out. 🙂

JM — the pub date for HAWKSPAR is September 2007.

As with TALYN, Tor is taking the time to do the book with flourish. The lovely maps and beautiful page layouts and all the other little touches that made TALYN a beautiful book take a lot of time and effort. Part of that time is elbow room for me to make substantial revisions. (I’m deeply thankful for the time, too.)

Gabriele — I hadn’t seen any of those. On foreign-language editions, I’m notified when rights sell, but then I don’t hear anything else. Occasionally I’ll get a couple of copies through the publisher (I cherish my Russian editions of the SECRET TEXTS trilogy, including the omnibus edition), but usually I never hear anything about the book again.

    Thank you for the link.

    Holly, have you seen this?

I was looking forward to Cady II, but I was looking forward to Hawkspar more. August??? After Talyn left me wanting so. . .

BTW, in case you didn’t know, patience isn’t necessarily a virtue, it’s just waiting for someone else’s schedule to catch up to yours. *~)

    Jess,
I don’t own copyright on any of my pro-published cover art. You’ll have to ask the publisher — in the case of Glenraven, Baen. Sorry I couldn’t give you the go-ahead, though I don’t imagine Baen will mind, so long as you ask.

Ok, there was more to that, and it follows:
I am excited for Hawkspar, though. 🙂

One more project-related question: May I use pictures from your cover-art gallery in the powerpoint? Specifically, I’d like to use the versions of Glenraven to illustrate the intercultural context of book production. Thank you.

Sorry to hear about Cady II… I don’t do ebooks, myself. I’m blind and just can’t, and I’m too cheap to print them. >.

Is that based on sales of the eBook version, or something else? I can tell you that I haven’t bought the eBook because :

    a) It’s PDF. My eBook reader doesn’t read PDF and I hate reading on the screen for that length of time.

    b) I thought you were trying to put out a POD version still (which I would have purchased).

If your comment wasn’t referring to the eBook sales, then you can ignore all that.

I’m also sorry to hear about Cady going on the shelf. I hope you’ll get the chance to finish it sometime. It sounded like you were really enjoying that. HTCB is really good. I’ll put up a review as soon as my brain starts working again.

You have to do what you have to do, though. Good luck with the series. Please put me on any private notification list that you might start.

Congrats on the accomplishments. Sorry to hear about Cady II, although it sounds like a sound business decision.

It’s really sad that you’re pulling Cady 2. I was really looking forward to it. As soon as I can afford to buy the rewrite of HTCB, I will, as well as several other of your books.
