Word Count: NaNo Day 1

Seeing Shadows (Dummy Placeholder Cover)
Seeing Shadows (Dummy Placeholder Cover)

Got 2541 words. Had to hit 2500 to get my goal. Did, but it took me more than an hour longer than I’d planned for.

๐Ÿ˜€ Thank you. I wanted something with more clear humor in it, but the story right now doesn’t have the humor I’d planned. There are some funny lines, but it’s going darker than I anticipated.

      More like the cover, actually.

    I agree about the cover.

I can only hope my real covers turn out so good!

I finished with 3,373 words tonight. I didn’t have a target word count Day 1. My goal was to write my opening scene and I accomplished that.

Tomorrow night and Thursday night will have the same goal unless my HS Junior daughter decides to spend the night with me (recently divorced), then I’ll drop everything to spend time with her.

Friday night will either be a night off, or very limited word count if I get to write due to some family things going on that night.

This weekend, however, I plan on writing quite a bit. My goal by the time I go to bed Sunday night is to have between 17,000 and 20,000 total words. I’m trying to get ahead because I am going out of town for 5 days the week of Thanksgiving to do 2 college visits with my daughter and then spend a Thanksgiving with my parents and sisters and their families.

    Very happy with Day 1.

I’m so excited for you. That’s a wonderful first day. And good luck on your weekend, too. ๐Ÿ˜€

I’m sticking like glue to my planned wordcount, and to my planned days off.

But… I’m much more into this than I thought I’d be, and doing better than I anticipated.

This is what it felt like to write when I was thirty. Fun. Free. Wild. My brain and my body are working together again.

Thanks Holly! And I’m happy to hear you are feeling thirty again with your writing. You’ve been through a lot recently so it’s great to hear you say that!

I set writing goals too, but I have to allow myself a little flexibility on setting a day-to-day goal due to my recent divorce and never knowing when my teenagers are going to want to come over to my apartment (we don’t have a rigid visitation schedule – at their ages [16 & 17], that don’t work – so they just let me know when they are coming over and I make sure I accommodate). So I tend to set goals more like “X words by Date Y” where X will account for days off. Then I take my days off as they happen (when my kids ask to come over) and write the other days. I typically have a monthly goal, and then smaller weekly goals where each Date Y is typically a Sunday. My weekly goals are always higher than “monthly divided by 4”. I like to plan on being ahead and building in a buffer for “life happening”.

I’m very happy with my progress so far. I’ll know more after Sunday. My goal through Sunday, Nov. 6 was 17K. At the end of each day, though, I feel much better if I’ve ended my writing at the end of a scene. Just one of my many quirks:)

I’ll update again after I’m done writing on Sunday (Nov. 6) to let you know how I’ve done and then share my goal for Sunday, Nov. 13.

Thanks. I wast trying to write TO something. I wanted something more along the lines of the logo in the top left corner. What I’m getting is more the house that’s the main image.
