WABWM: Story Almost Escaped My Evil Plan

7:37 AM

Am feeling considerably better today. And I left Cady in such an interesting bit of trouble yesterday, and quit writing before she could do anything but discover the start of what’s going to turn out to be…

…BAD.

So this morning promises to be fun.

STARTING COUNT: 58,777
GOAL: 1500+
SCENE: Heroes’ Welcome

I’m cheering your progress.

Now, on to mine. HAH!

10:45 AM

Wow! And the consequences had consequences, and the scene took off for me. COOL stuff. It was starting to get out of hand, though, starting to take off with my story in a direction I didn’t want to go.

Managed to rein it in with a nice twist.

CURRENT WORDS: 61,038
TODAY: 2269
SCENE: Finished Heroes’ Welcome

Goal: Add a few details that I almost forgot to this revised scene, and type it in
Progress: Wrapped it up and typed 1247 words of it in. Going to do the rest this weekend.
Scene: Carrying the Moon on his Shoulders
    Totals: 95,231/115k revised
Mood: Tired. I’ve been pushing too hard, I think, but I’m so excited by all these breakthroughs it’s hard to call it a night sometimes. 🙂

Nice run. And that’s a SOLID day’s work.

I got 632 words today, and a cool twist. It’s one of those ones that I could not have seen coming, but in hindsight it feels like the only way this scene could possibly have been written.

Lee: how did the writing go?

I’d love to tell you that the writing went as planned. But that would be a lie. 😉 i was sent on errands; and when I got back and expected my dad to do what he normally does — sleep in front of the TV — he got restless instead and got into everything. Yes, everything. I ended up having to be content with thinking about the story and making a few notes for a writing session that will take place today or tomorrow while the sitter is here and I can get out and about. But I’m not going to stress out over it. That’s just the way things are right now and I’ll get a handle on managing my time better as we all adjust. Thank you very much for asking, Julian. 🙂

“And the consequences had consequences…” Love when that happens and suddenly a metaphorical Sunday drive through the storytelling countryside becomes a wild and untamed chariot race worthy of Ben Hur. Gotta hold onto the reins without pulling the horses up short and wrecking the whole thing. Of course, sometimes a “wrecked” story holds a surprise that just hasn’t been discovered yet. As long as we can avoid getting mangled in all those tangled legs and reins and wheels and–

    Okay, I’ll stop now.

I was going to tell you about the past few weeks here. I managed to finish NaNoWriMo in spite of my father’s worsening health and dementia, his wrecking his car (hmm, that might explain that preoccupation in the paragraph above; he’s okay btw, car was totalled), getting used to having strangers in the house “helping” out, repairmen here to fix the air conditioner that stopped working (argh! it’s still hot in Alabama!), and my sister who insists on popping in for visits (it’s just a quick overnight visit, no, don’t go to any trouble for us, her, her hubby and their three dogs, no trouble, yeah riiiiiiight).

I am itching, nay, aching to write! So that’s how I plan to spend the rest of the evening. Writing. Diving into the world of my story, pitting some characters against each other and instigating some deliciously malicious mayhem. Mwahahahahaaaa! Thanks for being there, Holly, and being the continuing inspiration and wonderful guide that you are. Cheers! 🙂

Wow. That sounds like a few weeks worthy of a do-over. I’m glad you’re getting some time to yourself, and happy to cheer you on.

      Nice wordcount above, too. 😀

Well, 700 was the goal but, alas, not the actual word count. Which was mumbledy-mumble (zero) mumble. But the air conditioner is working now and I’m sitting in my room with my MacBook Air and am about to begin a writing session. Goal: to write 700 words regardless of interruptions. Here goes. 🙂
