As someone who suffered through two spontaneous first-term miscarriages of desperately wanted pregnancies, one of which required emergency intervention, I can affirm that miscarriage is an emotionally devastating, physically painful, private disaster in a woman’s life. It is the death of hope, both for the woman whose body fails her and for the people in her life who have hoped with her.
It isn’t a crime, nor should women suffering through it be put in the position of being treated as criminals.
