This is now officially a GREAT week

Today I sold Talyn, planned for 250,000 words, and A Book to Be Named Later (sports fans will get the concept), also planned at 250,000 words, to Tor for hard/soft publication. I am thrilled. I am walking on air. I am climbing the walls. My adrenal glands are hiring help for the holidays.

    A couple of quick answers:

First, YES, and in a big way — this sale is absolutely related to my new agent, Robin Rue. I am beginning to suspect that Robin walks on water — she is also concerned about things like whether her writers can buy food, or use electricity to cook it.

Second, this wasn’t the book with the lesbian protag — that was supposed to have been Glenraven II, but Jim Baen refused that.

Third, if it’s an April Fool’s joke, then the joke is on me. But Robin told me we have the sale, so I’m taking that as gold.

Forth, I’ll put the first couple of chapters from the submission draft up on the Sneak Peeks board later today. And a couple of notes on that — you do have to be a community member to reach this board, the chapters are not in final format and are subject to all sorts of change, and therefore may not be quoted even for purposes of review, and if you want to share them with someone else, please just send him or her a link and instructions on how to reach the board. Don’t copy the chapters and e-mail them or anything. Thanks.

YES!!! Whoohooo! I remember reading a snippet of that and loving it — very immersive opener you had. WOOT!

And both of them good fat long reads! YES! Way to go! Purr purr purr purr!

Thrilled for you and for me, since of course my TBR stack will expand again. 😀

Woo hoo!! Congratulations!! And about farking time!!

Can you chalk this one up to your new agent? If so, she’s justified her existence in a BIG way!

Yay! This is great! Yet I must sigh. Even more money I’m going to have to spend on books. *grin*

YAAAAAAAAAY!!! Wow! Holly, this is fantastic! I’m so happy for you! Congratulations!!! 😀 😀 😀

I’m just curious, because I remember you posted Russ’s crit on the book about a year back–will "Talyn" keep the lesbian protag you originally intended? Purries, thanks! 😀

    And CONGRATS AGAIN!!! WOOOT!! 😀 😀 😀

WooHoo!!! Way to go, Holly!! Great News!

(But this isn’t an April Fool joke is it? I hope–you wouldn’t do that to us on something like this, would you? No. There are some things you just don’t joke about.)

  • silverfire Apr 1, 2003 @ 17:47

Yay!! More books to eagerly wait for. More drool to wipe up, too. 😉

This is GREAT news, Holly. Congrats!

This is awesome, awesome news. I’ve been eager to read Talyn since I first heard about it last spring.

Super congrats! Is Talyn a fantasy? It sounds like it, but I’m not sure because you said that you’re changing the direction of your writing. Either way, I’m very happy for you!

Way to go Holly! And as a fan and student of baseball history, the "Book to be named later" is a great analogy.

Woot! What a coup! Congratulations! I am absolutely thrilled for you! Woot-woot!!
