The time to put together a big project and ask for a raise is not usually the same month that your publisher’s owner posts a fifty-billion dollar loss …

AOL Time-Warner (of which my publisher Warner Books is one part) just posted that loss.
It’s a bit tough to take their caution personally in the wake of such crummy numbers on their part, even if the loss is really a stock-valuation thing, so that it mostly exists on paper. I’m still looking for a better deal elsewhere, of course. But the response I received becomes a lot more understandable.
