Cover for The Rose Sea, painted by Clyde Caldwell
The women pictured on this cover are Karah, one of the main characters, and Eowlie, a secondary character who gained some importance as the book went on. The scene pictured is one of my favorites from the book, and Clyde’s depiction of Eowlie, shown kneeling, is marvelous. I sent him sketches I’d done of her species’ skull configuration and a few notes on her specifically — I think his adaptation made her look sexy enough to justify the male interest she engenders and dangerous enough to warrant the fear she deserves.
And the bloody red sea is great. This is one of the paintings I wished I owned.
