We’re getting ready to shut down the HollysWritingClasses.com site for its update (This will happen in 0-48 hours… don’t know yet).
But while the site is down, HWC members can ask questions and talk to each other here.
This is not a place to report problems. For that, go to the HWC Help Desk and create a ticket.
This is just so folks can stay in touch with each other until we get back to the forums — keep up with word counts, talk about writing… whatever.
It ain’t perfect, but it’s a lot better than nothing.
How’s progress (for those of us waiting on invites to the inside)?
I just want to thank everyone who is working so hard to get everything up and going in good order. I didn’t realize I’d miss the forum so much, or rather I should say that I really miss you guys! Hope everyone is doing ok.
We’re almost there, Joanne. And you’re welcome. Tom Vetter, James Husum, and I are in Zoom right now working together to smooth out some things that aren’t quite right yet.
But invitations will start going out soon.
You’re most welcome. 🙂
Just folks know what’s going on ….
We got the classrooms moved over, with one or two hiccups. We’re in the process of trying to get the forum moved over and running into a few minor issues which we hope to resolve soon.
James,
thanks so much for letting us know how things are going!
Hey, just checking in.
Hey back! It becomes very clear why blogs did not take over the forum world, lemme tell you. 😀
So sorry I was late logging out! I forgot the message board was loaded in my browser. Oops! I hope everything goes well and I was the only goofball!
No problem. We’ve been head-down on this since about noon, and we’re not done yet. Just coming up for air now.
Hi, Kim. Thanks for logging out. There were several folks who were still in there when we shut it down. I just hope no one posted after the ‘time to go’ notice, because we took our last save right after that.
Hi Holly,
Fortunately, I hadn’t posted. I’d just had the site up in a browser tab. Whoops!
Present.
Yeah. But what KIND of present?
Was essentially nothing going on here yesterday. You might have noticed. :D. I don’t imagine it will be all that busy in here today, either. We’ll be integrating the forum.
At least we know the whole ‘lockout’ going on is for a reason.
Yeah. And we’re just about through the thickets!
I just found this class through an ebook by Carly Berg, Writing Flash Fiction, How to Write Very Story Stories and Get Them Published. I Look forward to learning and writing.
Hi, Elizabeth. Thank you for letting me know where you found my Flash Fiction Class. And I hope you enjoy it, and get a lot of good fiction out of it.
Related to this, because you gave me the whole title above (thank you), I bought a copy of Carly’s book to check her link to the class, and sure enough, the link you came in on is on life support.
I’ll need to put together a better way of dealing with that original link in her book when we roll the site over to the new version.
Hi! New to the website but am starting the flash fiction 3 week course. I listened to the Flash Fiction for Halloween episode and it sounded like a question was a good place to start for a flash fiction story-what question is this story answering.
And on week one of the course it mentions that a desire and problem are where to start. I think my question is should I focus on the story’s question or the desire/problem to start, or are they both intertwined? Sorry for the long question lol thanks in advance!
Guess what, I’m here too. 😀
Hey! Good to see you. 😀
I’ll say hello too. Just passing through, though. When I first found out about your classes, it was during the last big change to your own platform.
All the best for the transfer and thanks to all involved.
Hi! We’re doing the last bit now — the integration updated forum software and the brand-new classroom software.
The guy who built the forum-to-classroom integrator plugin is working with my database guys/moderators to get all the members moved. 10,000+ folks, so we really, really need his help.
And then we’ll be done.
Thanks for letting us know!
I blew it again – I was going to help with the volunteer work, but at first I didn’t know where to find what I was supposed to do and was waiting for something in either the main thread about it or in an email (but I guess I should have gone looking), and after a few days of refreshing that thread, I eventually forgot about it. I suspect it is too late now. If it is NOT, please let me know what I can do. Thanks.
You didn’t blow it. We couldn’t do the volunteer stuff until we got the new site live, because I could not be sure until the new site was live what the new URLS were going to be.
I could guess.
But guessing and being wrong would mean that work that had been done once would have to be done again, and that seemed to me like a pretty good way to burn out my volunteers.
If you’re still up for it, I’ll be doing a re-request for volunteers as soon as the site goes live.
Okay, yes! Please keep me posted on that. Thank you!
Sent out the first Volunteer Email today.
Make sure you add the tag linked in the email.
I did – thank you!
Good to know that. I thought the same as Raven and was waiting for an email. At least I now know the missing email wasn’t because I’m completely unreliable. Will certainly answer the call and do my bit to help.
Sent out the first “volunteer email” today. Make sure you add the Volunteer tag linked in the email.
I’m here, although I’m generally not there … if you know what i mean? *laughter* Glad to hear the new site is getting closer to reality.
Right at the moment I know exactly what you mean with “here, not here”…
But I’ll be glad when that passes.
Soon now.
Hello everyone! You are all working so hard to make this as smooth as possible, thanks again!!
We’re getting close now. Having an important meeting with a guy about fixing the very last obstacle.
Holly I did send Tom a private message personally thanking them for their hard work.
That is really cool of you. They’ve be working crazy hours, all volunteer, and we would not have a site or any hope of being able to save it without them.
I’m sort of here 🙂 Good luck with the site transfer Holly!
Thanks! Good to see you here. This is one of those “brace yourself” moments for me, in spite of the fact that I know what’s going to happen is in great hands.
Those hands are NOT mine, because I have long been known as the Queen of Destruction where tech is concerned.
But Tom Vetter and James Husum are wonderful, and have done all the testing offsite. So we’re about to detonate the old site and bring in the new one.
Hope all is going well.
Here!
Waving! Hi, Chris!
G’day there Holly 🙂
Hey, Shane! G’day to you too. 😀
🙂 from me too 🙂
Glad to see you here!
Hi Holly I made it here
Hello!
Hi Holly.
Hi, RebeccaAnne!
Just testing the comment field, and noting that I’m going to have to approve the first comment for folks who haven’t posted on my blog before.
