The Complete HTRYN Course Description

Yesterday and part of the day before, I spent 19 hours putting together the course description for How To Revise Your Novel. That was one of the last big tasks I still had to do before the course goes live (briefly) for HTTS students and HTRYN Priority List members.

Tomorrow, I’ll put up walkthroughs of the signup process.

So again—whole lot of words yesterday. No fiction words. Sorry to post this late.

How did YOUR words go?

Put in 5K and finished my 50K for NaNoWriMo (my first). Still have another 20K or so to finish the novel but feeling good about it now!

Try 0501 in the UK. Lousy little hour of sleep that I didn’t need anyway, right?

Oh, and Holly, the course description is great. I know it’s going to be tough for me to be up at 6:01 on the 30th (I’m in Italy) to sign up, but it’ll be worth it! 😀

I know, I know. Midnight for me on the East coat on a MONDAY. UGH!

    Forgot to post yesterday!

    403 words on wednesday 25.

The matriarch clears up what she means when she says that Erthel needs a temporary guide, and assigns this duty, lookie lookie, to Faurel, given that he’s already successfully helped her before. We’re very close to the end of the scene now.

No words. Prepping for the T-day celebration. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

2734 yesterday, and hit the 50k for NaNoWriMo. I’ll keep slowly working at it until the story is done, maybe 500 words a day, but I’m so frustrated by it that today I’m going to step away and work on a short story… just so I can keep myself happy and motivated. Chocolate will definitely also be involved in this task.

      Congratulations on finishing!

538 on a new scene with James’ sister worrying about where he is. It just happens to be a horrible eerie coincidence that the friend who’s emotional strength my character is modelled on, just found out she has advanced stage breast cancer. Prognosis isn’t good. 🙁

The sister is in a quiet pub with one of James’ military mates. She’s about to break down because James’ absence is only the icing on a list of stresses. I don’t know what my friend is going through, won’t presume to, and I could never do this scene justice to her pain, but it’s definitely going to be emotionally charged.

Jessica, I’m so sorry to hear about your friend! I hate cancer. It’s the worst thing and I wish so much they would find a cure for it already.
(I just watched My Sister’s Keeper last night. Very sad. I actually liked both the movie and the book and the differences between them).

    1802 words.
A scene where the heroine from the sequel (my previous novel) makes an appearance. Can’t wait to get to know her better, since I failed her the first time around. The scene was kind of messy, but it worked out okay in the end, and I got some new ideas on how it should go.

I’m so there on that revision class. Hopefully I’ll be able to keep up with the rest of the (more experienced) writers in it! But since its self paced, it should be perfect.

    And Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

    592 words.

The Queen is building a collection of nobles who are on the run from the Usurper. She interviews three of them to identify what they have to offer.

I had planned on spending this week writing but I had to work yesterday because of a deadline at work. It was hard to write last night. I’ve got some sort of weird cold or something. When it hit me, I first thought it was an allergy or something. I just stopped right up. Bleh.

NO!! Waah! No way. I went to sign up for the revision class but had issue with internet. Rebooted and now the class is filled? Am I misreading? The first time it asked for a code and allowed me to Sign up. Now it says, “the class fills up, let me know when the next class is available”. Wow, I’m so sad right now. …say it ain’t so…

Thanks, Pencil Neck. I just saw Holly’s email too. Phew. Maybe the page had a bug on it for a second. I can’t wait. :)) Hopefully, I’ll be able to get into the class.

Actually I’m assuming the code must be for HTTS students?

D&D: 622, most of the way through the penultimate scene…
    OFL: 1050
    RFW: 1082
My average scene length keeps creeping up with RFW, so that what I originally had in mind as an 80-90k novel is now estimated at 124k! I can’t decide whether this is a good thing or not!

    Thanks for the course description.

1,075 words today, for a conversation between the antagonists. It’s in a POV that doesn’t appear elsewhere in the story, so it’ll either be the first thing cut, or I’ll need to add more from the antagonist’s POV in revision, but I feel much more confident moving on to the “real” scene in which Zhaer interrupts the conversation. Looking forward to discovering which clue he has good reason not to notice this time.

I wrote about 2300 words yesterday. Still plugging along trying to finish my NaNo. Eleven more cards to go!

Rose killed a man yesterday, the King’s pet assassin. She had help, and wasn’t techinically the one who killed him, allowing the Princess’s guards to finish him off, but she is still determined it is her fault. She’s depressed, and feeling pretty horrible when she’s in the kitchens one day doing her duty, when she overhears a bit of gossip from the servants. The King has shut himself in his room, and hasn’t emerged for days. She goes to spy on him, and find him quite out of his mind. She fears the last of his sanity was lost when his most faithful servant failed to return, and she calls a meeting with her fellow conspirators.

Oh yeah, the course description was great! Definately going to take it and hope I still have enough money when HTTS opens again!

    The course description looks awesome!
I, well, I got my 2K and some, tugging along to the ending. Sadly, it seems that I will be writing series on this since there is too much unexplored conflict that I couldn’t hope to explore in 50K anyway. Or, rather, I can manage to tie up the ends of this book that will inevitably create a new heap of problems even worse.

That, or I’ll perform a miracle and edit this novel into shape. Someday 🙂
