With apologies for my absence, I’ve been without Internet since Sunday when a storm blew through, took out our power for a couple of hours, and toasted our modem. We just got it fixed, I’m catching up with a ton of mail, and I’ll be back tomorrow.

Hey, Jean. He just switched over to an Airport card (we had one lying around). It works, and he never has to worry about fun with Ethernet cards again.

That was some surge! Hopefully, the card’s one that’s easily replaceable. That’s where built into the motherboard really stinks.

{g} We had the thing on a surge suppressor. The surge killed the surge suppressor, too. Matt also lost the Ethernet card in his computer–but the computer suffered no damage other than that. Me? All of my stuff still works, but I can imagine how it could have worked out otherwise.

Ouch. I don’t know if you’ve seen them or not, but a couple years ago I got power strips with the cable and telephone surge protection built in. I always use it for the cable and cable modem (cause I don’t want to blow up the VCR, TV, or cable modem).
Glad to see you’re back on-line.

You have my sympathy… we did that last weekend, and it’s amazing how disconnected one feels, without internet for a few days, isn’t it?
