Still Playing Hooky From Writing

But not everyone has declared the week of my birthday an international holiday, so let’s assume you actually got writing done.

How’d it go?

Bit of a tough day. Hopefully the weekend will re-invigorate me.

I’m playing hooky too. It’s not my birthday. I have been doing way too much the past 6 or 7 weeks, however. My body and mind need a break.

Happy belated birthday, Holly!

I know that fans of the vampire genre are not going to like it but I am having fun with destroying the vamp-lore in my story. Here is a quick description.

“It stood a little off center of the doorframe, its left arm holding its right in an all-too-human gesture. It’s hairless head, the shape and color of a tulip bulb held wide spread and sunken black bean eyes. A lipless mouth curled around serrated teeth jutting from black slimy gums.
My first impression was that of a middle-aged, balding trekkie fan; naked and hairless with papery pale skin and bad acne. It didn’t have a penis that I could see, but I had the distinct feeling it was male. It regarded me with a pained and curious expression before a low rattle came from deep in its gut.
“You see me?”

Fun, fun, fun. This is one of the new scenes and really kicks up the creep factor. 892 words…

469 words, more than Thursday, and plans for more coming thick and fast now. I’ll be taking Saturdays off (generally, so none tonight).

I’m actually more or less taking this week off. I have 3 midterms in 4 days, and me being me I decided to leave off studying until the day before the first one. So I’m insanely busy.
On the bright side I have a story due late October, and I decided to finish revising Part 1 of my novel before I start the story. So if I don’t wanna fail, I’m gonna have to write soon :).

About 484 words so far today and about 8 yesterday. I just realized that I am stuck because my next scene, that I keep trying to start, is no longer valid. DUH!! No wonder my Muse is refusing to show up (except to add content to a previous scene). It’s silly but it feels like such a breakthrough. (My whole beginning grew organically out of 2 planned scenes. I am now finally at the next planned scene and it just doesn’t fit the way I originally envisioned it in my head.)

So, Muse, I am actually listening now, what happens next?

I needed a break and noticed my new word count is pretty cool. It’s now at 1776. Declaration of Independence from my Outline. hee. My Muse gave me some nice new twisties. Gotta love it. I’m still moving forward in the right direction though so it seems like everything is good just completely different… and more true to the story [!!]… then I had originally thought up. Yay!

1883 on Friday, and now it’s finally time for me to reveal who the REAL bad guy is…

If only I knew what details of his Master Plan(tm) are… 😉

637 words, and I. Finished. The. First. Draft. Wow. The ending totally sucks, though. Now I get to work on the sequel, the idea for which came to me through HTTS, and wait with bated breath for HTRYN, at which point I will take this horrible first draft and learn how to breathe Holly magic into it… 😀

Awesome news! Congrats 🙂
And don’t sweat that ending. I’m with you, waiting for HTRYN and some solutions to the awkward parts.

Another 3,121 words on my alt project yesterday. I should have it wound up shortly. I’m already working on it again today. I love it when the end is in sight.

500+ last night after two days off, and Kai is on the verge of getting out of what my husband calls the High-Contrast World. I’m still not sure what the point of this world or Kai’s excursion into it, is though Kai did see something interesting that RB has a cool take on—unless it’s a total tangent to the main story.

I’ll be glad to get back to the mayhem of the upper world.

*grins* I seem to be celebrating your birthday by writing, which I think is fitting. ^_^

About 900 words done as a surprise gift for a friend (we’ve been talking about starting a letter game, and this will be the first letter)

In addition, my recent “story I tell myself” (mental writing to keep myself occupied on the drive to work and when going to sleep) reached up and slapped me across the face. I’ve been developing the plot and world to go with it in anticipation of actually writing the book. The first blush of attraction has faded through the irritation of realistic worldbuilding and into a comfortable affection. I think this one may be a keeper.

200+ words that I didn’t like. I was very tired and wanted to have some sort of word count. However, sleeping in this morning, I realized the problem and am glad I didn’t push for more. I will be able to fix it up and get back on track in no time at all.

I have been working on “sentences lite” for my WIP. I’ve been playing around with cards and decks in SuperNotecard. I have eleven decks, each representing a different phase of the before, during, and after of the battle of Gettysburg. I know my narrator very well by now. I have her voice in my head.

But she doesn’t always stay on topic. She goes off on tangents. So a little pre-plotting should:

1. Help me get the book written in a shorter period of time, and
2. Reduce the amount of editing that will ultimately need to be done.

Fun!

274 words today, so Taskh is only slowly approaching the leader of the rebels, and I still don’t know what Taskh plans to say to him.

800+ words, and some worldbuilding for NaNoWriMo. I met my weekly goal and will dedicate Saturday and Sunday to a short story I’m writing.

200 or so yet to type up. FMC has a nagging feeling in the back of her mind – or more like a screaming voice – that’s telling her not to hand over her fiance’s ashes. But she’s at the door, noticing the subtle changes in the weather as summer comes to a close and how her friend still seems oddly overdressed…

471 words – Development.

Still working out the scenes and the outline. I’ve added several scenes and some things that I had loosely written down as scenes have expanded into multiple scenes. I’ve still got a lot that needs to be expanded. In the process, I found several ways to add a lot more stress to my Princess’ life. She makes some decisions and things don’t go the way she expected at all but she learns a lot from being homeless and penniless for a while.

Only 268 meager words today, which I only managed after a bit of writing intended to loosen my mind and fingers, which seem to be made of wood every time I open the WIP file lately. I don’t quite understand why this particular scene is being like this, because it’s leading up to Ryan’s return to the village, which is quite eventful. Maybe my fingers are feeling Ryan’s reluctance to return, because I know every step closer is heavier, and he dreads returning “home”.

Ah well, I’ll have a conference with Ryan and my muse tomorrow and see if I can clear things up, get the river flowing… 😀

I’m just jumping in today in an effort to break me out of my rut. I’ve only been writing in fits and starts for the past year and I figure setting some ATTAINABLE goals would help me get back into things.

So, with only a character’s voice in my head, I started writing. And hit 1318 words. And a complete scene. I am on top of the world right now.

Also, happy birthday, Holly!

But I did declare your birthday a national holiday, Holly! I took today off!

Okay, actually it wasn’t because of you. It was a combination of two factors: my fiance arriving for his visit (we live about three hours apart) and making a soup for dinner that, while tasty, took a LOT of chopping and exhausted me rather quickly.

Emily

Nope. For some reason, I haven’t written a lick for the last two days. I’m stuck on lesson 8. I know there’s good stuff my Muse hasn’t given me, but I also know it’s going to take some real brain power to get it out.
