Regulars?

Not sure why this struck me today, but I find myself curious. I have an image in my head of perhaps thirty or forty people who read this thing with any sort of regularity (based on posted replies, what little I can garner from my web stats, and my guess on the amount of interest that what I have to say as a person rather than as a writer holds for most people). It could vary as much as ten percent either way without me being surprised.

But I am curious, and perhaps you’re curious, too. I’d like to ask your help in a dreadfully unscientific little survey. If you consider yourself a regular reader (however you personally define ‘regular’, from dropping by from time to time just to see what’s here, to having the weblog bookmarked and checking in daily), please reply in this entry’s comments. You don’t need to put anything more up there than a name (doesn’t have to be your real one if you’re shy), and a little notation in the comments body like “sporadic” or “daily” or “weekly” or whatever. You can say more if you’d like, of course. If you are a regular and there are things you’d really like to see more often, you can mention them, though I can’t guarantee you will see them. It won’t hurt if I know what you’re hoping to find, though.

Please just post once — it’d be a big pain to go through the IPs in the log picking out duplicates and deleting them, and I’d rather not.

And thanks for participating. If you’re a regular, thanks for coming by to see what I have to say, and adding your own two bits from time to time.

A little late, but I’m usually more regular a visitor than I have been for the past month — super busy personal life. Usually stop by to check how things are going for you a couple times a week.

sporatic reader, seldom (ever?) comment. I do have this linked on my webpage, but I haven’t read as regularly as I used to. I’m more like once a week or so, vs daily.

This is my first time commenting here!

I’d say very sporadically. Usually when I’m looking for information about writing or am frustrated that my own novel isn’t going well, I come by.

I was very surprised and pleased you had a weblog, it’s really good. Unfortunately, I haven’t read any of your work, but am hoping to order some when I have the money, in the meantime, I love your articles.

They have inspired me to create the story, to let go of my fears and get on with it. So thanks for that!

Sporadic. I have you bookmarked and catch up every fortnight or so … more when I’m not writing because seeing your wordcount reminds me that it’s a case of "sit down and do it" as much as anything. ๐Ÿ™‚

I stop by once a week or so. Also a member of FM.

Yup. I’m a regular. Late getting here this week due to unprecedented time with hubby, but I’m here.

Formerly, I visited ever so often. Am hopeful to view daily.

Whenever I remember to check in. Usually two or three times a week. I also check Jerry Pournelle’s site about the same. I have been an avid SF/Fantasy reader for 30 years and have about 1500 paperback books in my library. I have always thought about writing my own book and your site has given me a lot of info to help me get started! I like the updates on your current projects. I look forward to reading your next book!

Although I don’t comment much, as you have enough to do and take care of, I ALWAYS read everything you have posted both here, and the on site.

I’ve leaned A LOT from these, and for that, I’m eternally grateful.

Sporadicish. I try to catch up on all of your posts whenever I drop by – probably 3 or 4 times a month.

I’d like to see, although I might have missed it (or maybe you can’t say yet), who you sold Midnight Rain to.

Sporadic-I found the website on the back of one of your books;I wanted to see when your next book was coming out. Like your stuff.

Another little note here, since I realized I left some stuff out.

I have your blog both bookmarked and linked to on my blog. And I first discovered your site when I read a book of yours and noticed the URL in the back (I think it was the back?). Took a look around your site, liked what I saw, became a member of Forward Motion and the rest is history.

Most of your political entries I agree with, and are (as others have said) well thought out and thought-provoking. It’s also refreshing to see a conservative voice in blogging, as most of the political blogs I see are liberal.

As far as what I’d like to see more of on the site or in the blog, I don’t really know. I think you have a good thing going as is, with no changes needed. I enjoy your articles as well as your blog, and perhaps more articles would be good. I realize they take a little longer to do than the blog posts, though, so, again, your current setup is probably close to the optimum.

Thanks for the site, the blog, and the articles, Holly. I appreciate all three. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’m an irregular regular. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Sometimes I visit 4 days or more in a week, and other times I don’t. I do enjoy your blog, though, and the occasional snippet you post. (Loved the latest one, btw.)

I swing by most days, unless of course they’re like the days I’ve been having this week, when I’m lucky if I get my email.

    Hi Holly,

I probably stop in every other day or so, though I tend not to have time to comment all that much. (Too busy running after the 8 month old!) I’ve been visiting your site (and now FM) for nearly two years. Its a wonderful resource!

    Happy belated birthday!

Holly, I found your site by accident well over a year ago and affectionatly refer to it as my "writing bible" You have been a great source of inspiration to me with a much needed dose of realism. I check in to see if anything new has been posted every few weeks or so but this is the first time I have responded to this part of your site. Happy late birthday and thank you so much for all your advice and anecdotes.
    Sincerely, Jennifer

I drop by the blog probably something like once every couple of days, and have been for a few months, though I’ve known and loved FM for at least a couple of years. More, actually. I think I found it right before you moved to your own domain.

    Hey,

Whenever I get online. So between four times a week to daily… often, anyway.

Happy birthday for the other day, by the way!

Discovered your pages doing a net search about 3 months ago when I began writing my first novel and was looking for information on manuscript formatting. I check the pages once or twice a week and have read many of your how to articles and have found them very helpful and inspirational. I’ve used your technique for quick editing, and it has helped me to focus even though I’m working in the crime/mystery genre.

I have read SF since I was 8 or 9 y.o. and I am looking forward to reading your fiction. Favorite authors are OSC, the late great MZB and Gordon Dickson (Chylde series), Roger Zelazney (esp short story collections), Stephen Donaldson (Gap, Thomas Covenant and Mirror novels)(he’s writing crime novels now), Sam (Chip) Delaney, and now George RR Martin (Saga of Fire and Ice), Goonan, Terry Goodkind (Faith of the Fallen was a Masterpiece), Sheri S. Tepper (sometimes a bit over the top and polemic — I like men too much to want to change them biologically). Another new writer, a practicing lawyer I very much enjoy, is Valerie Friereich

I feel that Robert Jordan has become derivative of his own works although I continue to buy each volume as they become available. I’ve invested too much time and money in the Dragon Reborn series not to. I used to like Katherine Kurtz and the early Dernyi novels, but I think the same criticism can be applied to her works too.

I know you didn’t ask for all of this. But I have learned much about the mechanics of writing from you, which is great since its been over 25 years since my last creative writing class in college. I hope to make this a second career, since I’ve been a criminal defense attorney for 20 years now, and just hit 45 myself.

I’m happy to report that since July 7, when I began, I’ve written 108 pages and over 23000 words. I don’t know yet how many pages I will need to write to tell the story I want to tell.

Your blog is interesting even if I don’t agree with some of your political stances. But then, I also read OSC’s Blog and Chaos Manor along with Salon.com. So I’m open for differing points of view.
BTW I’m from Calif., voted against the recall. But the people have spoken. Maybe something good will come of the change. Stranger things have happened. lol

That’s the beauty of the First Amendment.

Again, thank you for this invitation to be a little less anonymous in your community.

I agree. Words do matter. And real writers do bounce.
