Regulars?

Not sure why this struck me today, but I find myself curious. I have an image in my head of perhaps thirty or forty people who read this thing with any sort of regularity (based on posted replies, what little I can garner from my web stats, and my guess on the amount of interest that what I have to say as a person rather than as a writer holds for most people). It could vary as much as ten percent either way without me being surprised.

But I am curious, and perhaps you’re curious, too. I’d like to ask your help in a dreadfully unscientific little survey. If you consider yourself a regular reader (however you personally define ‘regular’, from dropping by from time to time just to see what’s here, to having the weblog bookmarked and checking in daily), please reply in this entry’s comments. You don’t need to put anything more up there than a name (doesn’t have to be your real one if you’re shy), and a little notation in the comments body like “sporadic” or “daily” or “weekly” or whatever. You can say more if you’d like, of course. If you are a regular and there are things you’d really like to see more often, you can mention them, though I can’t guarantee you will see them. It won’t hurt if I know what you’re hoping to find, though.

Please just post once — it’d be a big pain to go through the IPs in the log picking out duplicates and deleting them, and I’d rather not.

And thanks for participating. If you’re a regular, thanks for coming by to see what I have to say, and adding your own two bits from time to time.

Hi… I’m a big fan of the site, and it’s part of the reason why I stopped being so lazy and actually started to write. I drop by every other day to check the weblog and to find out if you’ve posted any new articles or something.

Hi, I love your site and really enjoy reading your weblog. As said by someone above, it gets me to continue the journey to becoming a published writer when I read about other writers struggling to climb the same hill I’m on. I visit regularly (almost everyday), just have nothing much to say. ๐Ÿ™‚ *goes back to lurking*

    Hey!

Looks like you’re getting a lot more action than you thought ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m presently checking at least once daily. Back during the run-up to Iraq, I was checking probably 3 or 4 times a day (at least morning, lunch, start of the evening "surf," and end of the evening "surf."

Hi!!! Hey!!! How do you do? Never posted before but I wanted to say how glad I am that I found this site. I’ve been wanting to try and form the bits and pieces of the fragmented world I have in my head into a story for a long time. This site is so helpful that it makes me want to weep with joy that I chanced upon it. While I do hope to be published one day, I mean seriously who writes and doesn’t want that. I am just glad that this site is here to guide me in solidifing my world. Thanx Holly. Luvs ya for this site.

Hey, Holly! I actually have your blog as my start-up on Explorer, so I check it whenever I log on. I always enjoy seeing what’s new with you, since you aren’t hanging around FM due to life constraints right now. I miss you there, but it’s wonderful to keep abreast of your hills and valleys through this.

I always enjoy your point of view. Not only do we dovetail nicely on most political issues, but you express your opinions so well that I view you as an excellent representative! It’s not "just because I say so" with you, as many people tend to fall back upon, but you clearly define your terms and argue whatever with gusto and elegance, two things that unfortunately don’t always coexist in today’s political landscape.

I enjoy all your blog entries, whether I agree with you or not. Fortunately for me, I do most of the time, so that frees up my indignation for others. Your writing skill quite possibly surpasses any other writer with whose work I’m familiar, with the possible exception of Zette (but she gets points for SF). You constantly amaze me with your inventiveness and clarity.

BTW, I adore you for the great feeling and interest you lavish on writers, and new writers in particular. We’re very fond of you for that, and thank you for all the hard work you put in on our behalf.

    Good luck always!

    Hi Holly,

Never posted before, but this is an excellent opportunity to tell you thanks for your site, Forward Motion and all the great information you provide for us.

I check your site every few days and fm less often (just don’t have the time). Both are bookmarked.

Thank you for sharing and I enjoy your work very much.

Regular: Iโ€™m not reading every day, but I do check in about four times a week.

The information you dispense here, so freely, is priceless.

I find your observations refreshing and insightful.

The frank and open style with which you address your daily life โ€“ how you share so freely newfound discoveries, your struggles, and the solutions to those struggles with such conviction – underpins your coaching with solid relevance. You are the โ€œReal Dealโ€, and that is why I visit here so often. No gimmicks, no condescending blather, no pretense in your written words, just down and dirty truth on a topic that you excel at โ€“ life.

You bring a dignity and grace to the Web that is so often times lacking. We all might learn a thing or two from such honesty.

    Thanks Holly

Daily –> for about a month or so now. I really like the comments on the progress of a book, and the other writing links etc always draw me back. This may have something to do with my decision to do NaNoWriMo this year. But I enjoy the site.

I do come here to read daily and love reading what you have to say. On the other hand, I’m one of those people who think a lot but can’t figure out what to say so I usually don’t comment. I do like reading though. You have interesting things to say and I’m always wondering what new project you’re working on.

    Hi Holly,

I come by and check out your site every day (sometimes twice a day) just to see what you have to say, or to see if you added any new workshops (I’d be lost without some of your workshops) This website is such an inspiration, to see a writer who actually cares about her following – and who helps by giving great advice, both in articles and workshops.
    Thank you very much!!!

Daily, more or less. I think its fascinating to have this kind of insight into somebody else’s life, and who can make it INTERESTING, too. Who cares if I agree with all your political views? They are among the most interesting for me. Sometimes they want to make me cheer, and sometimes they make me want to take up my arms(figuratively speaking, since I’m a pacifist) and argue you to death. It’s all part of the rollercoaster ride, and I love it.

I declare myself to be a sporadic reader of the blog. I have read every article for writers you have posted on the main site, though. I check back every now and then to see what you’ve added. I’ve recently joined FM this year and am working up the nerve to join a crit circle. The articles I’ve enjoyed reading most are the ones that illustrate your drive and determination to make a living from your writing. That’s what inspired me to make more of a commitment to my own. Thank you so much for creating your site and sharing so much of yourself with us.

I’m regular — every couple of days, but I only found your site a month or two ago. I’m 1/3 of the way into my first novel, and it’s pretty lonely territory (no one seems to understand exactly what I’m doing, and so I’m just keeping a low profile). Anyway, I like your regular progress reports because they give me the sense that I’m not in this on my own. I’ve also read quite a few of your essays and found several of them helpful.

You and I are, I think, quite far apart in our social/political perspectives, so I don’t tend to agree with a lot of those kinds of blog notes and have never posted a comment here before. Still, you always argue your case well, so I keep reading. What definitely keeps me coming back, though, are the writing-oriented updates.

Used to be daily, but since life has gotten busier, once or twice a week. I feel like I learn something new everytime I pass through, which is what keeps me coming back. This site is the reason I finally finished writing my book, and suggestions for one-pass revisions have been wonderfully helpful.

Daily reader — your blog is in the bookmarks, and I check it out in the morning along with Sheila’s blog, Instapundit, and Andrew Sullivan whilst I caffinate myself for the day ahead. I’m not sure if I found your blog or Forward Motion first — it was through a Google search over a year ago when I was searching for pointers on the art and craft of writing.

I don’t know if there’s a topic of yours that’s a "favorite" of mine — I find it all interesting. Even if you post an opinion on a political matter that I might disagree with, your reasoning is always cogent and provides me with food for thought. I will say, though, that the snippets you post are pure delight (and I’m often amazed at what you can do with the English language!)

I visit and read pretty much daily. I discovered your site when using google to search for writing help over a year ago.

I have to say that you have shown me what it is like to become and to be a writer. Knowing what I now know, I still want to do it, I believe I can do it and I am not deluded by fantasies I had years ago. And I like your non-writing entries as well and I happen to share a lot of your views.

I still haven’t participated in FM and I’ve not read any of your books! But I shall do both soon.

I check the blog most weekdays and have it bookmarked on my computer at work. (Dial up at home it too slow.)

I found the site about a year and a half ago during my information hungry, new writer phase. I read somewhere that new writers should be information vampires and I’ve tasted just about everything here.

I most like your tales of writing and integrating your writing with the rest of your life. I like your political commentaries not because I mostly agree (which I do!) but because it comes from an honest, reasoned perspective.
