Regulars?

Not sure why this struck me today, but I find myself curious. I have an image in my head of perhaps thirty or forty people who read this thing with any sort of regularity (based on posted replies, what little I can garner from my web stats, and my guess on the amount of interest that what I have to say as a person rather than as a writer holds for most people). It could vary as much as ten percent either way without me being surprised.

But I am curious, and perhaps you’re curious, too. I’d like to ask your help in a dreadfully unscientific little survey. If you consider yourself a regular reader (however you personally define ‘regular’, from dropping by from time to time just to see what’s here, to having the weblog bookmarked and checking in daily), please reply in this entry’s comments. You don’t need to put anything more up there than a name (doesn’t have to be your real one if you’re shy), and a little notation in the comments body like “sporadic” or “daily” or “weekly” or whatever. You can say more if you’d like, of course. If you are a regular and there are things you’d really like to see more often, you can mention them, though I can’t guarantee you will see them. It won’t hurt if I know what you’re hoping to find, though.

Please just post once — it’d be a big pain to go through the IPs in the log picking out duplicates and deleting them, and I’d rather not.

And thanks for participating. If you’re a regular, thanks for coming by to see what I have to say, and adding your own two bits from time to time.

Daily. I always find your posts thought-provoking, whether or not I agree with them… or just plain misunderstand them (my bad).

I’m a daily person; you’re part of my blog ramble. I don’t agree with a lot of what you say, but I still read it because every once in a while you come up with something completely right. I also go through the articles every few months.

Daily. I very much prefer the entries about writing to the politics, but usually I’ll read the politics just to see others’ opinions. Besides, it’s your blog, write about politics if you want. ๐Ÿ˜€

More or less daily. More when you’re talking about writing, less when you’re talking about politics.

Daily. This blog is on my daily rounds of blogs, forums and news sites I check.

I always enjoy reading about the writing. I tend to disagree with about 80% of the non writing items. I don’t mind that though, I like to expose myself to things I don’t agree with just as much as the things I do. It helps ensure that I get a rounded perspective.

Every few days to weekly. I don’t always agree with your political opinions (though often enough I do). Even when I don’t agree, I feel they are always well thought out and well presented. I respect that.
I greatly enjoy your perspective on the writing life and balancing family. It lets me know that we all have difficulties sometimes.

Almost daily. I enjoy the way your mind works. At least I enjoy it when you get really peeved and start to vent. Keep applying reason when you form opinions. Too many people form opinions and then form reasons to keep them. Thanks for the site and the great writing advice. Maybe someday I’ll overcome procrastination and actually put your advice to use.

Daily, mostly, for at least the last year or so.

Like many others, you and I have very different political opinions, but it’s nice to see the opposing view expressed intelligently. What draws me back, though, is the view into the world of a working author. I wish you every success in your career.

Pretty much daily, at least during the week, now that you’ve gotten back into the blogging after the blowout that happened. I’m sorry to hear about that, by the way. As they say, just one rotten apple…

I read your blog because it’s impossible for you to get an article out every day ๐Ÿ˜‰ and love to hear about the challenges involved in writing. It’s nice to get an insider’s viewpoint as I chug along on my first novel. Just threw away 175 pages +/- due to incomplete plotting and world building. Your articles have been the perfect information for me. Even better than many of the books I’ve bought.

Thanks a million, and keep writing!

Sporadic, but always go back and read the old stuff. Especially enjoy hearing about the "writing life". And even though I’m "trying" to write romance, not sci-fi, your site is splendiferous and incredibly useful. Thanks.

You dont know how muh you’ve helped me. I was browsing the self-help books to writing fanatsy the other day, and I thought "Hey, i dont need this…" not only because i believe you have to work out most of the problems with writing yourself… but also, that Holly’s given me the inspirational and well worded advice I really need.

Started reading regularly (daily) as of three weeks again when I got myself a copy of ‘mugging the muse’ which I love, and has inspired me greatly to kick start my writing.

Shortly going out to buy one of your novels but not sure which one yet, can’t find them in my local book shop, but have downloaded the two free novels just waiting for my boss to go out before I print them lol.

Yes, I read your Bounce almost daily (maybe five times a week). A "Regulator," if you will. I also find myself reading the myriad of writing advice you have so generously provided. It’s both insightful and practical. Thank you very much for those columns!

Daily if possible. At least several times a week, sometimes several times a day when I’m procrastinating. ๐Ÿ˜€

We may differ on some political issues, but not nearly as much as I may have expected. This could be due to the fact that your well-thought out and presented entries have changed several of my opinions.

I love reading about your writing, you and your family. Keep it up, Holly. We’re always rooting for you.

  32. Kellie Avatar

    Daily.

While I more often than not disagree with your political opinions, I am completely convinced that you are an honest person expressing the truth as you see it. Who can do more than that?

But I, too, check in daily mostly because I have come to care about you and your career and your family. I chanced on "Minerva Wakes" a couple of years ago and have been a fan ever since.

I suppose I should also mention that I deeply appreciate all the material about writing, since that is what first drew me to your site and then to those of others of the community. I have been writing as a sort of hobby all my life with no real expectation that it would ever amount to anything. The idea that it might is beginning to nibble (no, the word should be gnaw) at the back of my mind…

Ah, Holly, you have no idea. ๐Ÿ˜‰

You’re bookmarked on three computers (work puter, laptop and table top at home) and I check in every day to see if you’ve posted anything new. You have intriguing insights into the human condition, the nuts and bolts of being a writer, a parent, and most everything else. We don’t always agree (I’m more of a politicl moderate) but your essays, blogs and writing lessons are great!

Daily. I might not always agree with your point of view on certain subjects, but you have an entertaining way of presenting your thoughts and sometimes I find myself agreeing with you on things that I wouldn’t have thought I would. Besides, though I know this isn’t intended as a political forum, it’s nice to get the opposite perspective from my own without any of the bullshit. It isn’t bipartisan. It’s just the opinion of one person.

Anyhow, sorry for the ramble. This is why I don’t usually post comments. I’m too long-winded. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I used to check in daily when you posted daily, now it’s every couple of days. My favourite is when you talk about writing – progress reports of the book you’re working on, new ideas, anything, it’s good to see how the real world of publishing works.

    Thank you!
