Night Count

I ended up with a net gain of 776 words, the first scene finished, and the second scene started. I’m not used to only having two hours (well less than that tonight) in which to work. But it’s something, and right now, it’s working.

I may have to readjust my schedule, though. My estimate of 1500 words per day average was based on working in daylight, in my office, for about four hours.

Total project word count tonight, though: 3366.

Welcome to my world, Holly ๐Ÿ™‚

Since my teen years I’ve always been a nightwriter: with school in the morning, and homework and hanging-out-with-friends in the evening, hobbies like reading, drawing and writing had to be done after dinner.
After my master degree in 2008 I started attending a PhD course, and a few months later, I moved in with my guy: that was when everything changed. Work and study took me around 8-9 hours a day, and then there were the house chores. My guy is a huge help with that (he’s the house cook, and he also does all the ironing too, which is great, because I flat-out hate ironing!), but it was a real big change all the same. Soon I discovered I couldn’t write at night anymore because I was freaking tired: I often fell asleep at around 22, and even if I made it to midnight, I couldn’t concentrate on anything. It kinda depressed me, though luckily not in the proper clinical sense. I had to do something to get my groove back.

So I became an early morning writer. Now I get up at 6:40, make breakfast and get ready for work, then I have around 1 hour, sometimes 1 hour and a half which is all mine, all free for my writing, before I have to go to work. I write in ten minute increments, like I learned (or learnt? Um, can’t remember: I’m Italian and sometimes I mess stuff up) from your courses, because that’s the only way I can actually benefit from every minute I have. And then I go to work with the highest mood ever, my head filled with images and questions about what happens next. I love it ๐Ÿ™‚

I manage to write 600 to 800 words a day using this system. It will get better in time, I suppose, but using your scheduling math advice I’ve calculated that with keeping this average, assuming everything goes well (crossed fingers), and keeping my weekends free, I’ll be finished with my first draft around the end of october. Which is fine for me. Yay!

I think I’ll never thank you enough Holly ๐Ÿ™‚ Keep up the good work!
