My Ohio 4 folks face bad, badder, and YEESH!… Plus a Moon & Sun: Emerald Sun update

In my Ohio main character’s living room, folks who have befriended her and worked with her have just got some very bad news… as in, “Well, guys… we’re now potentially looking at the end of us, the town, Ohio… the country… maybe the whole world…”

And there’s a certain amount of lack of support for keeping going in the face of what are almost certainly Dire Consequences.

I tried to keep quiet and just let them talk, and they came up with some pretty good arguments for packing up their toys and going home.

So tomorrow, I’m going to have to see if my hero has anything she can put in front of them to change their minds.

Things are… Bad. Very bad. Very scary.

Got 1335 words, more than the 1250 I needed. And I like what I got, though I really wasn’t expecting quite the level of vehement lack of support for T and her job.

I’m really hoping someone tomorrow is going to stand up and say, “You bunch of chickens… You lily-livered weasels…”

But with the stakes being whole-town, whole-planet, whole-solar-system… I don’t have a clue what any of them might say.

Fortunately, I don’t have to worry about that.

Tomorrow-Holly is the one who will have that land on her plate.

THE MOON & SUN SERIES

I’ve had people asking me for years when I was going to write The Emerald Sun and finish the series.

Here’s the problem. I have no clue how many readers actually want to have the series back in print, or to read the as-yet-unwritten final novel.

And until yesterday, had no clue how to get in touch with the people who wanted to read those books.

And without being able to talk to the folks who want to read the series, there’s no point in writing it, because there’s no way to reach them to let them know when I do.

But I had one person from my big list write to me to say, “I’m waiting on your list because I want to read The Emerald Sun.”

One. But that’s why she was/ is there… and there might well be other folks who are waiting for the same thing.

If that’s you, here’s your page: https://hollylisle.com/i-want-to-read-the-emerald-sun/

Go there, add yourself to the Moon & Sun reader’s list, and if you have some friends who share your reading tastes, bring friends. Reply to the ONE email on that list — right now there’s just one. Talk to me.

The problem is — and always has been — that I need enough readers for the series to do the massive amount of work (and incur the large expense) to bring the first two books back to life and write the third one.

This — building the list, and then talking to readers and would-be readers of those books in a way that will allow me to let you know when the books are available for purchase — is the first step.

Hi! I read the first two books in the series when I was in middle school and fell in absolute love with the story. I remembered the books about a year ago, reread them, and fell in love again a decade later. I introduced them to my younger sisters and they both couldn’t put the series down either. In my research to find a third book, I came across your website a year ago and read some updates. I don’t think your list was up when I visited, but I haven’t forgotten about the series so I came back!! I’m positive there are more people who’d love a third book. Is there any way to make the list more accessible? It took a bit of digging on your website to find info about the series.

I loved the first two books in the series and was very diaspointed to find out that there was a very real possibility that you would not get the chance to continue it. I have been checking back every so often for any updates. I really hope you get enough support to make this happen.

The way my heart started racing when I made my annual check-in and saw an update for Emerald Sun! Signed up for the list immediately. I haven’t stopped thinking about this seroes since I read Silver Door the week it came out.

I’m hopeful that I’ll be able to do it.

I have only 59 subscribers on the Moon & Sun list, now, and I can’t afford to spend about a year of my writing time, including first draft, revision, editing, and book layout and design for those few folks. If my finances change for the better, that could change.

Absolutely understandable! I’m rallying all the fellow fantasy fans in my life to come support the project ❤️

I read the Ruby Key when I was probably 8 years old, read the Silver Door pretty soon after, and have been anxiously waiting the final for over a dozen years. I would be so happy to finally be able to read it! I really hope everything aligns to make that happen – and yes I have signed up for the list!!

      Thanks, Erin.
I’m doing my best to build the path that will get me there. As of today, I have 42 folks on the list…Moon & Sun – 42 subscribers
We aren’t there yet, but at least it’s a start.

I signed up for this newsletter so fast!! I have been hoping for a sequel since I was a kid, I’m literally in veterinary school now – and you can bet your biscuit I’ll be buying a copy when it comes out.

COOL! Folks have not forgotten. And I haven’t either.
Thank you for letting me know it matters.

I signed up for your weekly update BECAUSE of The Emerald Sun as well, hoping that someday I may see you posting an update on it, and you finally did! I really hope it’s happening this time because it’s been so many years since The Silver Door, and I’m still eager for an ending – I heard that the series was originally longer than three books (six, if I’m not mistaken?), but if you decide to make it three, then that’s fine for me, as long as there’s a relatively “ending” ending (if you know what I mean). I need (want) a closure, just like every other reader of The Moon and Sun series do – so please make it real this time QAQ

Yeah, I’d planned a big six-book arc. And then the first book didn’t go big, the second book suffered from the “bookstores ordering to the net” issue, which killed a LOT of series.

And I have to assume this is one I’m going to be doing for love rather than money. So… yes. I’m planning to end it at three.

I literally just remembered the Emerald Sun the day after you posted this, and had to check back, I haven’t forgotten over the years. I’m happy there’s others still interested and that you still have hope for the series.

I’m hopeful. I don’t get huge amounts of mail about the series, but the mail I get is pretty passionate.
