Motivation, Third Video, Now available

The third of four videos for THE WRITING CRAFT: How To Motivate Yourself is now available in the student area for all Think Sideways students who have reached Lesson 5 or later, and for all Think Sideways Grads.

Handouts and other things that will be included will have to wait until next week, along with the fourth video, which I ran out of time on today.

Holly, in another thread (I’m not sure where), you had said that there was a lack of interest in The Writing Craft stuff and that you were going to cut it loose.

Now, I know you’ve got a lot of other things you are working on but I was looking forward to a lot of the things you were planning on hitting in this. I just personally wasn’t all that interested in the first things you were planning on covering… like Motivation. Some of the questions that you asked for The Writing Craft series even made me revisit things I was doing in my novel (like Guilds and my totally unconscious tendency to create characters without families).

If you’re not going to do those things in The Writing Craft series, I’d still like to see them get done somehow and at some point.

Thank you, I responded to your last post but it was awaiting approval. Dang it, this probably will be too. But I so wanted to thank you, your words on Scrivener help a great deal.

Is How To Think Sideways a self paced course, so I could start anytime?

Is the Writing Craft a separate course or part of H2TS? (or is it HtTS?)

HTTS is something you start and work on for six months or a year, with (a) one lesson a week for 6 months at $47 a month or (b) one lesson every two weeks for 12 months at $25 a month. Either way, it’s the same course. You work through the lessons at your own pace, moving to the next lesson once you’re satisfied that you’ve gotten all you need at the moment from the last one.

The Writing Craft is a separate series of videos that offer VERY in-depth, intensive looks at certain specific aspects of writing. So far, there are only two episodes: “Dialogue and Subtext” and “Motivation” (with the latter in progress now).

Both are very helpful and informative (for me, at least), and definitely worth your time.

I have been following the videos and I just wanted to mention that I’m finding them extremely interesting. I’ve just finished the clustering and I have a lot to think about. My mind is a very strange place. There are a lot of contradictions there and also some scary stuff. I have to wonder if my muse isn’t just taking this as a chance to be melodramatic. Still, I’m left with much to consider. Thank you so much for making these available.

Sorry but I can’t watch the video because it’s a mov and my Quicktime-plugin doesn’t work (I reinstalled it but no change). Could you embed it like the other videos? I get so much out of these.
I mean, I don’t have any troubles when it comes to motivating myself to write but I have other issues were your lessons are very helpful (although they do hurt).
    Thanks for putting them up.

I can’t get it to run either. I clicked where it says “click here” but it hangs three quarters through loading.
The Left / Right Brain video worked, but not part 4 of motivation.

It worked for me, but I’m on a Mac and that might be part of the reason. It took me to a second page and when I hit play it took me to a third page where I had to hit play again to get the movie running.

Took Mrs to doctor on my day off today. She is ok no C. I can now concentrate on writing. Didn’t write yesterday, but I am going to try and write today. This was a rough week only 450 words so far. The thought of my wife being without me was always stopping me from writing, I would have been a ship without a sail. But I was able rejoice in the good news and cry in her arms….shhh don’t tell my guy friends, they think I’m mean and tough.
