I Left out the Whole Freaking WORLD!

Writing Lesson 2 of How to Revise Your Novel right now, and discovered that I left out the World Check in Stage I, the Trauma Triage stage of the course.

Which makes World Check Lesson EIGHT, and bumps the course up to 22 lessons.

That’s a full five months. Up from the three I’d hoped to manage it in originally. I should have known better. Revising a novel is easily three times as complex as writing one in the first place, and breaking it down into techniques and logical reasons why you do things, and why you do them in a certain order, takes time, too.

At least the lessons are coming together nicely.

Thanks Gabby! Guess I wasn’t reading the comments carefully enough. ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s true revision takes a while, so I’m sure five months will be good for those who are just starting to revise a novel. I’d planned to use the course more as inspiration and see if I can make some further improvements to the novels I’ve already partially revised. Guess it won’t be suited to that purpose. Too bad.

Will it be possible to pay everything right away and thus download the whole thing in one go? I’ve already revised two novels and know I will be skipping around and not do all lessons.

      Hi,
I just noticed Holly didn’t have a chance to answer this. My question above was also whether I could take the course more quickly then 5 months. Her answer is above.

I’m glad to see that you are doing a slower paced version of the course, because I don’t think I will want to stop creating new stuff while working on revisions.
I’m kinda hooked on this writing thing, you see ๐Ÿ˜€

Mmmm! 2 hours per draft per day equates to 8 hours each day for four drafts waiting for Holly’s processes. Bring it on. ๐Ÿ™‚

It would be nice to learn it quicker, but I’ll be happy with whatever happens. I’m sure it must take time to create and I’d rather start now than later.

Will you allow us to take the course more quickly? (If we don’t want to take 5 months to do the revisions)

No. Putting together different payment plans is easy with the software I’m using, and I’ll offer several. Putting together separate courses (which is what allowing the course to be taken faster would entail) requires changing the way the software works, and doubling my workload with every different version I offer.

THIS time, unlike with Think Sideways, I’m keeping my end of things clean and simple.

But you’ll most likely need the time. I’m putting each lesson together based revising for 2 hours a day, 5-7 days per week. You’ll be able to do a decent single pass at that pace. To be thorough, on doubling your time input. If you have only an hour a day to work, you’ll need to hang out with the bigger-books/shorter hours group I’ll put together.

Remember, revising a book is much more labor-intensive than writing it in the first place. It takes time.

Yes, I guess I’m more just worried that I will spend time waiting for the next lesson. I can certainly see though that my WIP is going to require a lot of effort to make it ‘shine’ and I’m so glad that your course will be so thorough. I’m glad you’ll have a couple of different pace groups too.
