Hit 40,000 words on World Clinic yesterday, hit the migraine wall today

I’m sitting up for the first time all day. Managed to answer the HELP DESK.  That’s it.

I’ve been working through the damnable migraine for the last three weeks, but yesterday around 2:45, it turned worse, and I’ve been doing the dark-room-eyes-closed thing since then.

I’m up briefly—Tylenol plus buffered aspirin has taken the edge off. Am hoping to be functional again by tomorrow.

The ‘Welcome to the Upgraded Site’ sale I’d hoped to hold this week had to be postponed, though—I’m hoping to be able to do it next week, but it depends on whether I can sit up and work or not.

The good news, and it’s really good news, is that all the SANE worldbuilding chapters in CREATE A WORLD CLINIC are now done. I have to do the material on massive worldbuilding, but am developing a better-structured conceptual model for my process, and hope to be able to cut what I’d planned for five chapters down to one that covers everything better.

Hoping I’ll be back soon.

Thank you… I was one of them. 🙂
Hope your migraine goes away… or at least ease up a bit.

On a side note… I upgraded (finally) to a Macbook Air… All I can say is WOW. Why didn’t I do that years ago? The difference between the two versions of Scrivener alone is well worth the swap in systems. Now that I’m no longer Deployed or in the Shipyards… Putting it to good use.

So sorry about your migraines! I had started getting regular migraines for a few days at a time for the last few years. I’m on a good streak right now. It’s been 3 months since my last migraine! I’ve been taking 1 Aleve in the mornings, using my allergy medicine / nose spray, using magnesium spray after shower a few times a week, and taking my calcium/vit D supplements most days. I have also been taking more Sudafed lately and my regular small dose of caffeine in the mornings. But it’s worth it! I thought that super salts may have been triggering me, but I think it was mineral imbalance and perimenopause. That’s where the calcium and magnesium were so important. I take another Aleve if I feel a headache coming and more sudafed and it goes away! I know it’s so hard to figure this stuff out since everything takes months of action to see the results. Good luck! Feel better…

P.S. Detoxifying foods like apples, celery stalks, chicory (the coffee substitute), and leafy greens are good. Stay away from onions, garlic, spicy foods, stimulants, and greasy foods. Also dairy and wheat. 🙂

Three weeks—yikes! Mine (when I have them, which is typically once or twice a year) usually last all of three or four hours. That is, if I don’t nuke them in the bud at the beginning, which I usually do. I know you’ve probably been around the block a few times with this, but just in case there’s something you haven’t tried, here are some of the things that have worked for me:

    1) Feverfew, 2–4 capsules at earliest onset of migraine aura (typically when I first see the blind spot, or even before, when I know I have the perfect preconditions for a migraine and can sense it coming on because of bad food, not sleeping, neck and back problems, and vascular instability (due to wind, drafts, exercise or lack thereof, etc.)

    2) Drinking lots of water at same. I once completely nuked a migraine in progress by drinking a couple of quarts of water at earliest onset. Nowadays that would flood my kidneys, but it’s still theoretically a good idea (if you have strong kidneys).

    3) ACUPUNCTURE (or DIY acupressure)!! Best solution BY FAR for migraines. I’ve rarely met a migraine I couldn’t nuke, or at least make significantly better, by this combination of two points: San Jiao (Triple Warmer) 5 and Gallbladder 41. Although, being a nurse, you would probably geek out on the anatomical descriptions of the locations, I won’t bore other readers by posting those here. You can look ’em up on almost any acupuncture site. You don’t need needles; just holding them for 5–10 minutes apiece (I like to do contralateral SJ-5 and GB-41 simultaneously, using opposite hands, then switch) should be enough.

    4) When that doesn’t work, or if you need some additional juice, try these points: GB-20, DU-2 (sacro-coccygeal hiatus; difficult to reach, but you’ll thank me for this one 🙂 ), DU-16 (base of occiput, on midline), LI-4 (the classic point in the webbing between the 1st and 2nd metacarpals), GB-25 (not a classic point for h/a, but I’ve found it to be really useful for upper body conditions that have their root in lower body vacuity—i.e. us folks over 40).

Anything that unlocks the diaphragm (deep breathing, etc.) and the hip joints (yoga, etc.—but go GENTLY!!) in the long term is also good. 🙂

    Good luck!

    🙂 Nicole

Hugs, Holly. Remember that your health important and try not to push it too much. Great news on the clinic though. You’ll feel better with that project behind you.

    Hi Holly,
I feel I know you, having bought all your courses and followed your wellness (or not) over the last five or so years. So, of course you have my sympathy (not for the devil), but…

I thought maybe a reminder would help:
You’ve got through this (and worse – remember the vertigo?) before and this, too, will pass.
You’re a survivor, and you’ve had some crap times! BUT you always come out the other side…

Smiling for you as this passes, and sending you hugs and love and all good wishes,
    Cheryl

Hang in there, Holly. Sending good thoughts and prayers your way. I used to have those bugger migraines and can sympathize. Breathe long and deep and sigh a lot. It may not help the headache, but it can express the frustration without moving around a lot. 🙂

Oh my gosh. Holly, hoping you have some relief soon. I used to suffer with migraines, luckily for three or four days not weeks. I so sympathise. Sending you a big hug. Liane
