Hey! I have BESTSELLERS! (Five of them…)

Please excuse my bouncing up and down, but while looking for a book on Amazon, I decided to see how my self-pubbed stuff was doing.

I’m freakin’ giddy!

PROFESSIONAL PLOT OUTLINE is sitting at #6 in Writing Skill Reference as I write this, and MUGGING THE MUSE: Writing Fiction for Love AND Money is at #17!

Take a peek ๐Ÿ˜€ : Real bestsellers, Real self-pub.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/digital-text/158279011/ref=pd_zg_hrsr_kstore_1_6_last

Both books are in the left (PAID) column on the first page.

{dancing around my office}

I’m so happy. ๐Ÿ˜€

Added later…

After my elation at finding two of my books on the first page, I went through the rest of the list. I actually have FIVE books on Amazon’s Top 100 in Writing Skill Reference.

Create A Plot Clinic is #42, How to Write Page-Turning Scenes is # 64, and HTTS Lesson #1 is #83!

And the VERY Next Day…

Plot Outline at #2
Plot Outline at #2

Picture. Proof it’s real. Pinching self, trying not to do too much damage. ๐Ÿ˜€

YOU GUYS did this. The jump was ALL you. Thank you.

Congrats! You deserve it all. You’ve helped me so much with my approach to writing. Your teaching style is stellar — easy to digest and clear. Really some of the best I’ve experienced. So, thank YOU!

Congratulations! (Oh hey, I bought Mugging the Muse and it becomes a bestseller – I’m a trendsetter! xD)

BTW, I’ve been meaning to ask, what IS the significance of that penguin on the cover of the Plot Outline course…?

  4. Deborah Neisch Avatar

I had asked this in an email to you, but it was your response to a help request, so probably not the right place to ask. I see Tambi above has the same problem I do, getting thru the lessons very slowly. First question, as I am finally starting Lesson One of HTTS, do I actually turn my lessons in? And question two is, do I jump into the current week’s bunch of people or what? Since it may take me a while between the various lessons, that may mean jumping into a number of different classes. Or, do you have a better system? I can do it on my own, but I need to know if that’s what I need to do! Thanks.

I guess I should have said “Tambi below…” to be correct. Oh, and WOW, congratulations on your numbers, it says a lot about your teaching style!

      Hi, Deborah.

First, ANY email is the wrong way to reach me. My email is clogged with a couple thousand spams a day, and this in spite of a bunch of rules that keep me from seeing the majority of the crap that comes in. So for any email but those known addresses I’ve already flagged as critical (agent, Margaret, my moderators, my husband and kids), the wait for a response can be weeks. I have to dig through the spam to get to the real stuff, and I don’t have time to do it every day.

So I have the Support button in the header. That works better. I’m currently doing support once a day, (and not at all on weekends) so there’s a bit of lag, but not a lot.

Next, I redid the workgroups so that you just jump in. Previously, everyone would start out on the same lesson, but then the private groups would die off as people worked at different speeds. This way, there’s always SOMEONE on the lesson you’re on. So there aren’t separate classes. There’s just “whoever is where you are in the course right now” and while we haven’t been using this system for very long, it’s already working better.

Finally, no, you don’t turn your lessons in. Writing professionally requires you to approve of your own work. No one else has authority over what you produce; no one else can possibly know if you achieved what you were trying to do. So the course teaches you to develop your own self-assessment skills, and prevents you from relying on “expert opinion,” which in general tries to make the person using it a carbon copy of the “expert.”

You might guess I’m not a fan of “experts.” You’d be right. ๐Ÿ˜€

Hi. Just wanted to say that I LOVE the self-paced way your courses and web-forums are structured. I’ve not seen it before, and it works really well…

Congratulations!!! Does a jig for Holly. You deserve it. You have inspired and changed my view of myself as a writer with your courses. I loved you paranormal romance fiction. Read all 4, would love to ream more like it. Reading your other stuff too, and waiting for Candace Drake… A new fan, and student!!!

LOL, I need to work on the editor… He did a bad proof reading job.

Congratulations Holly. I’ve taken your big courses (HTRYN and HTTS) and it makes me very happy to see you reaching a new audience. I’m sure there will be a lot of new writers who graduate from the ‘book format’ courses on Amazon.

I’m a HTTS and HTRYN grad, and an owner of your books such as Mugging the Muse and Create a Character Clinic…and I am not even remotely surprised that you are now a bestseller! It’s about time I say! For all the 70+ hour work weeks you have done to help us become better writers, and to keep your family fed…you are beyond deserving!!

Now make millions of dollars with your beautiful novels…show the world what real stories are made of! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hi Holly congrats on your sales and I agree with all the other comments you have had. I have bought all of you of your courses you have on sale at the moment and looking forward to your world building. I also want to thank you because without your courses I would still be frustrated because my writing wasn’t going how I wanted it to so thank you. I am following my dream because of you.

Congrats!!!!! ๐Ÿ˜€ and BRAVO!!! Will do what I can to take you to number 1. I need to read that book, Professionally plotting outline. See what I’m doing that I shouldn’t and not doing that I should and doing What I should. Every bit helps!

    CONGRATULATIONS Holly!

So far, I’ve bought, read and can heartily recommend…
    –your mini plot clinic
–Mugging the Muse (which made me tear up)
–the full Create a Plot Clinic ebook
    –Page Turning Scenes
–and the individual Think Sideways ebooks #1-5, 7 and 10. (And can I say here how much I really love the ability to purchase exactly the lesson I need when I need it from this course…brilliant delivery strategy.)

You have such an awesome way of encouraging, inspiring and guiding your fellow writers in all of your how-to’s, and I love how I can purchase these ebooks either from ebook distributors or directly from your site in multiple formats so I can easily transfer them onto my cheap tablet (which Adobe Digital Editions refuses to recognize, so being able to transfer nonDRM ebooks to a mini SD card is essential when wireless internet isn’t available to me).

I particularly like how you never say “this is THE way to do it”. Instead, you always present many different techniques that writers can then experiment with and piece together a custom workflow strategy that best meets their individual creative and organizational needs. And you do it all in a really great, informal and entirely honest voice that reassures the rest of us every step of the way. Talk about leading from the front of the writers’ battle trenches! It’s got to take a lot of guts on your part to reveal both your successes and your failures so openly. But that honesty is such a huge help to the rest of us, because it lets us know that you’ve been there, made the mistakes, figured out a better way, and are now saving the rest of us a lot of misery by sharing your experiences with others. Unlike some how-to writers on the subject of fiction writing who haven’t had a novel of theirs published within the last decade, you repeatedly walk the talk on both sides of the traditional and self published line.

I apologize that this ended up running so long. But I have found so much help from your hard work, and I wanted you to know your efforts absolutely make a difference in at least one stranger’s life out there! Your outstanding educational style more than deserves to be on the bestseller lists, and I am incredibly thrilled for you. Please keep up the awesome work…we writers need all the help and support and encouragement we can get in this ego battering business of getting published!

And to all the other writers out there who are reading this…if you haven’t already, GET HOLLY’S HOW-TO BOOKS! They’ve helped me get a 3 book contract for my very first contract when I thought I wouldn’t get anything but rejections, and Holly’s writing ebooks continue to keep me going and help me incorporate new methods into my workflow even after becoming a multiple published author. They’re worth every penny and then some!

Thank you Holly, and again, congratulations on making the Amazon bestseller list!

That’s one helluva recommendation. ๐Ÿ˜€ Thank you. I’m delighted you’re finding my courses useful—and that you appreciate my way of teaching.

I figure, as often as I’ve fallen (out of trees; off horses, bikes, playground equipment, swinging vines, climbing ropes, and while writing both publicly and privately) SOMEBODY besides me ought to benefit from learning how to do it without killing yourself. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hitch here! Hell girl, you are AHEAD OF ANNIE LAMOTT! WOOT WOOT! Any time you are ahead of Bird By Bird (actually one of my personal faves, I admit it–I love her chapter on “Shitty First Drafts,” because it makes me feel better about what I write), I say, break out the champagne!
