I left myself at a rough starting place, too — a scene I’ve written twice before, once from first person and once from third. And neither time to my satisfaction. This time it will be in third again, but not as the opening chapter of the book, and from the POV of the romantic interest, not the lead character. So it will be a much shorter scene. (Riknir was demoted from lead character. His place has been taken by the eponymous Hawkspar, who is doing herself proud as lead character. So far, anyway.)
