Half the podcast finished

What started out this morning as a mild little headache has turned into a full-blown migraine, though, so I’m going to have to go take something and lie down for a while.

Not a tremendously productive day.

I admit I don’t listen to *any* podcasts, but I do hope you’re feeling better. Now for a huge aside.

I want to thank you for your website, again. I re-read the articles depending on how I’m feeling/what I’m working on, and I found this nestled in the “voice” article:

“9. Remember that complacency is your worst enemy.

If you’re comfortable, if you’re rolling along without having to really think, if you haven’t had to challenge yourself, if you know that everyone is going to approve of what you’ve done — you’re wasting your time. Writing done from a position of comfort will never say anything worthwhile.”

I recently wrote a ten-minute play for a class and I’m sort of terrified of it. I’m a twenty-one year old white girl from Pennsylvania and the play was about two slaves in 1863 Tennessee. You can see my discomfort. But I worked really hard on it, and I revised and sweated and revised some more (and have the background knowledge/research). I know I have more revising ahead of me, but that snippet really helped me feel better. When I handed it in to my prof yesterday I was grumpy and didn’t want my classmates to read it because I didn’t think they’d like it (the climax is a nearly indecent incident) and now I feel like I can conference with my prof with a better attitude, that I can be proud of what I wrote. I might not get an A but I learned a lot writing the piece. So thanks for the perspective/reminder.

Oooh, I’m so sorry Holly. I hope you get better. As a matter of fact, I’ll send some e-asprin to you. Or, if you’re allergic to e-asprin, I also have e-ibuprofen. Both do wonders for my headaches. Sorry, I’m a little bit charged up, because I had a good writing day. Seriously though, I hope that my attempt at being funny has cheered you up and thanks for replying to my e-mail! I understand deadlines get to be a bit much. I’m just happy you replied at all. Anyway, I hope you feel better, Holly.
