The work on Hawkspar went smoothly — in places beautifully. Right up to the end.
On the last page, I careened into a major difference of opinion I had with myself, where I suddenly decided that one character’s secret needed to stay secret until that moment, instead of bringing it to the fore way back at page 90 or so. (Today’s edit finished on page 444, for reference). I’d forgotten that I did this, and now I’m puzzled. The latter version would work, but up until this point, the former version was working for me, too. Either way, I’m going to have to do some heavy revision to bring both versions of the story into agreement.
I’m taking the rest of the day off to give my eyes some R&R, and to think about how I want to deal with this problem. Aside from that, though, I’m back to liking my book again.
