Giving Thanks, A Day Late

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. For me, I’m thankful this year that:

My 24-year-old daughter, who was rushed into emergency gall bladder surgery at O-dark-hundred on Thanksgiving morning, came through it okay, and that she had someone who cared about her who could be with her in the critical first hours after surgery, when I could not be there (one car, 1200-mile round trip, husband who had to be at work at 5 AM today because he’s the boss and this is Black Friday);

That my 22-year-old son has a buddy whose cellphone works all the way from the Middle East, and that he let my son borrow it to make a call home… and that my son didn’t call before I knew his sister was all right;

I am thankful for:

Cell phones, which have made it possible to reach people in places that would, just a few years ago, have been impossible;

For my big guy and my little guy, who reassured me that everything would be okay, and who turned out to be right;

And for six or seven pounds of potatoes, which took a real beating from scrubbing and chopping while I was waiting to hear how she was doing. Cooking is sometimes not at all about preparing food.

    *shudder* What an awful situation. Thank God she’s okay.

    *hugs*

    PS Yay for phone calls 🙂

    So sorry to hear about your daughter. I know I would have freaked out in your place. Thankful, however, that she came through OK.

    (Ugh. I’m skipping my profiles. Too much Twitter.)

    I’m glad she made it okay through surgery Holly. I know Gallbladder can be a nasty operation.

    Best wishes, Mark.

    I’m so glad that she came through the surgery fine. Had she a history of gallbladder disease or was it a spontaneous flair-up?

    Glad the AFK and you got to have a Thanksgiving chat.

    Hope you, your man and the little guy (who is not so little, anymore) were able to enjoy your potatoes!!! [grin]

    Love and Hugs,
    Keely

    (((hugs))) I’m glad everything turned out well with your daughter, and that you heard from AFK. We’re a bit extra-thankful this year too… both me and my sister were in the hospital last week, me in ER with nasty grease burns to half my face (now almost entirely healed) and my sister, who had one of those crazy random sudden medical things that make you sick fast and getting a sudden unwanted vacation. (I felt worse for my mom then for me— got all done checking her other daughter in, to find out I had just arrived…)

    Well, what a nightmare! I’m glad that everything worked out okay though. But uh, the waiting to hear that she would be okay. Thank goodness she was. What a treat to hear from the AFK as well. And yeah, I hear you, sometimes cooking has nothing to do with the food.

    A Thanksgiving to remember, but not for the right reason! Thank goodness it all turned out all right. I hope your daughter recovers quickly and that for the rest of the year, and next year too, you and your family keep safe and well. All the best.

    Oh, Holly, what a nightmare! I’m glad she came through fine and you heard from your son. God bless your family and keep you all safe. Happy (late) Thanksgiving!
