Cover for Fire in the Mist — Painting by Stephen Hickman

The painting for Fire in the Mist is by Stephen Hickman, and it’s stunning. The printing and copying followed by the scanning process lose much of the color depth and the richness of the piece, which is a large oil on canvas. It was the painting for my first book, and I think I owe a lot of my subsequent success to the fact that it was so good — in general, people don’t notice first novels by unknown writers.

I had no input on this at all. I was just lucky.
