Finished the first draft of Midnight Rain at around 11:00 p.m., 2/11/03. That last couple of pages took me all day, and I’m still not quite sure the ending is as tight as it needs to be.
No matter, though. I’ve been celebrating; this moment has been at least nine years getting here — Matt thinks ten, since he’s pretty sure he remembers me talking about the project when he was stationed in England … which would mean I came up with the idea, at latest, in 1993.
I’ll do a print-out and start revisions tomorrow; right now, though, I’m just happy to be done. This is the first on-spec novel I’ve written since Fire in the Mist.
That one turned out pretty well, come to think of it.
