Chaos, Plain and Fancy…And A Tiny Island Of Sanity

The move is done—at least the part where we’re moving heavy-ass boxes from place to place. We had help…his youngest brother and his brother’s girlfriend, my daughter and son-in-law. Which is the reason I’m not in a hospital now, frankly. I’ve discovered I’m not as sturdy as I once was.

We’re under the new roof, and have spent a night here.

We like it.

But we have not unpacked.

In the first three photos (viewing left to right and top to bottom), you have the calm before the storm: After we repainted and recarpeted, before we moved anything in but new lamps. (Top middle picture is the carpet, which we like because it’s a berber loop, and while we had cats, we could never have that sort of carpet).

The place was serene, and while my brother-in-law (the middle brother) was in surgery, we’d come here after a day at the hospital, and just enjoy the emptiness.

In photo four, you have the first volley fired across the moving bow. Bookcases, and thirty+ tightly-packed boxes of books (they aren’t all in the room pictured. Some are in the office.)

There’s a break in time. Well, there was a break in me. I was too tired to take pictures while we moved, so the picture of the living room is post-move, and the only thing we have done. It’s our tiny oasis of calm in the sea of chaos.

EVERYTHING else is still buried in boxes, and boxes, and bags, and stuff packed inside other stuff.

We’re slo-o-o-o-o-owly getting things unpacked, but we downsized again (this time by about 300 usable square feet, from 1400 to 1200, but with 100 square feet used up by hallway), and had to blend his office and my office into one small bedroom, and, well…

Chaos.

I’m about through the madness, about ready to start posting and updating and writing new TalysMana chapters and doing course stuff and other goodies.

But this one largish obstacle yet remains.

May I publicly state how much I hate moving?

Holly YOU ROCK! At first I started reading this looooong tirade from “a fan?” and thought “Oh no, she’s not teaching ME!” but you did!

Your organization, knowledge and skill at rebuttal is astounding! Thanks for another lesson – in another category.

And “Dufus” (aka your antagonist) you do NOT rock, you sink!

Oh what a familiar sight. I moved too at the beginning of May, and yes, I too still have boxes piled around the house. It is, as you say, exhausting, and it carries on until everything is in its place. I share your priorities – office, computer and an oasis in the living room ๐Ÿ™‚
Your house looks lovely – and a balcony? Ah, now that’s got to be good. Glad you’re getting sorted ๐Ÿ™‚

Take your time to rest. Everything is gorgeous, but I’m exhausted for you. Moving is so energy consuming.

Congrats! Now you will have heat in the winter and cool (I hope) in the summer :-> Looks beautiful, serene (except for the boxes!) and calming. Just what the Dr. ordered.

    Enjoy and write more, again!

LOL, I wrote a poem …Bubblewrap and Boxes when we emigrated. You have reminded me of it. Happy Unpacking!

I think most people hate moving. I don’t know anybody who actually enjoys it. Moving sucks. We moved last year and it was a mega pain.

    Glad at least that’s over!

I’m so glad that things are settling down for you and yours, and that things went so well for your brother-in-law. I know what you mean about moving. I had to do it two years ago and I still could probably use therapy for the stress from it. I’d rather poke my eyes out with sticks than move again any time soon. Take your time getting back, we’re not going anywhere!

Hello, Holly. I just wanted to know if you could–pretty please with sugar on top–share if you are going to continue the Moon&Sun Series. Those are, seriously, some of my favorite books by you and I’ve been anxious lately since there hasn’t been any news on if a third book is in the works. If you’re not going to continue then I’d be heartbroken but I’d understand. I’m just going crazy not knowing if I should be waiting expectingly for something or not.

Very lovely home. Fresh and calm.

The only good thing about moving is that it helps you get rid of some stuff you don’t need.

Yay for getting this far and if all goes well, you won’t have to move again for a LOOOOONNNNNGGGGG time :).

Your house looks pretty–serene, as you say. At least you got to keep a lot of books. And I noticed the carpet. You will like it because it is neater than pile. I like that your window treatments are trim and don’t overwhelm the room. I have shutters, which gives the same very tidy effect: privacy, light control, but no ballgowns hanging on the walls.
Sharing an office is okay, so long as you don’t have to share a computer! Hallways are nice, because then the rooms can be rooms, and not just pass-throughs to the next room.
I am looking forward to the next installment of TalysMana, and also to new pages of the DTD notebook.
But first, rest up, be sure you have nightlights because you don’t yet know by heart where everything is, and take some emo time. If you’re like me, you’re in action during a crisis and put aside all your feelings till later, but eventually later comes. You’ll cry, shake, then wipe your nose and be fine.
    Welcome home.

My brother always said that moving thrice is like burning down your house once. Take your time to recover.

I’m so glad to hear your life is settling down. (I hear ya.) Thanks for posting the pictures.
I’m sorry to hear you’re sharing your workspace. Sounds like the sacrifice is worth it though. It looks like a great place. Congratulations!

Well done! The super hard part is over. Now you can unpack the boxes as you need them after your office is set up and functioning. ๐Ÿ™‚
I still have boxes packed from my move 16 years ago! They are labelled so I know what is in them if I need them.
Still sending love and prayers for the continuing healing of your brother in law.
