Due to some plot-driven changes in characters, I’m having to restructure the current chapter, and probably the next couple. Instead of reliable 2500 word scenes — two per chapter — I’m having to write shorter scenes and intercut them, alternating POV characters after 700 to 1000 words. This complicates the pacing of the day’s work, and has thrown a real monkeywrench into my writing rhythm. I’ll end up with four or five scenes in this chapter and probably six in the next one. It’s the writing equivalent of running down a staircase and expecting one more stair to be at the bottom, and hitting the ground too hard because it’s closer than you think.
I’ll be glad to get back to the one-scene-per-day format.
