Happy Chinese New Year

By Holly Lisle

Woke up at 1:45 AM feeling like a cross between the buzzard’s breakfast and a bag of hammered rat turds, but writers on deadline don’t get sick days. Sleep-in-late days, yeah. But you don’t get to go back to bed until the words are done anyway, so the workday is what it is, and looking busy is useless.

Today, I’m starting at 100,110, and will finish at 103,110 or better. at 100,000, I crossed the point where I could look at the little word counter at the bottom of Word and know how far I was. Now I have to click. That’s always a nice milestone.

After those words, finishing the new romantic suspense paranormal proposal for Claire. That’s a whole lot of words — can I just say “proposal”?

TALYN has a cover posted at Amazon. This is the first I’ve seen of it — if I get anything bigger and clearer, I’ll post it on the site.

And my Chinese horoscope for the year?

Rat: 1912, 1924, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996
A busy and varied year, but all turns out well. Initiative is the key to advancement, but don’t fritter away your new-found wealth. You’ll have some family problems but a full social calendar.

Having no old-found wealth, new-found wealth would be a step in the right direction. I’m all in favor. And I’m not buying that bit about the full social calendar at all. I have a date with my keyboard for the rest of the year. Unless that’s what they meant.

900, and The Wrist Went”Click”

By Holly Lisle

Got a lot done, but I’m also done with typing for the day. My left wrist did something funky, and now it hurts. I’m going to go read a bunch of TALYN proofs, and put my feet up, and at some point take a nap.

4603 total words for the day.

Last Run, and Done

By Holly Lisle

Ended with 96,407 after finishing a sentence I left unfinished in the last ten-minute chat run. 3176 words for the day. To the post office now to mail LGD. Then back to see about adding some to the proposal idea I came up with for Claire. And then some reading on TALYN, which has to be done.

Eeesh.

Starting on the Words

By Holly Lisle

Rolling a little late this morning, over in FMWriters.com chat getting ready to run tens.

Have been reading through what I documented of my run through TALYN, which was sort of a leisurely trip compared to HAWKSPAR, though it didn’t feel like it at the time. Found some useful notes, discovered that I was at the same point a couple of times there that I am here. The story keeps changing. My core themes for this book are the same, but the action is shifting around them like quicksand.

Going to have to re-outline soon. Don’t want to have to do it today. Start:93,231 Goal: 96,231

Foreshadowing

By Holly Lisle

Back when I was writing TALYN, I wrote this bit about forshadowing. I’m dealing with the same issues again for HAWKSPAR, and I found them a useful reminder. If you’re writing, you may find them helpful as well.

Finished with 93,230

By Holly Lisle

After all that mud, I hit a sweet spot. Gave me a great place to finish today and a great place to start tomorrow. Jean covered a huge amount of ground in her revisions.

My total for the day was 4081 words. That’ll do.

Now I’m printing off LGD, and getting ready to flag it to send out. Wiped out yesterday, and we went out for Chinese, so I’ll start the TALYN proof read-through tomorrow.

And Done for the Day

By Holly Lisle

Finished with 89,149. 3719 words for the day, which will certainly work.

Tomorrow Jean and I are going to run again. I’ll be doing HAWKSPAR all morning. In the afternoon, I’ll start in reading the proofs of TALYN. Doing these two books in tandem should be helpful, actually, since the worldbuilding for one ties in to the worldbuilding for the other. I can stand to brush up on some areas of Tonk-ness.

My TALYN Editor Has a Weblog

By Holly Lisle

My God, I’m delighted. It’s an excellent weblog, which you can read here: anna louise’s Journal.

Anna helped me whip TALYN into shape, and I’m looking forward to working with her on HAWKSPAR, too. She’s terrific.
