The scene is going well, but it’s looking to be a short scene. I’m not wanting to start into tomorrow’s chapter — I hate coming in on the middle of a scene. More often than not I leave the night before with a clear idea of what I want to accomplish, and come in the next day to discover that my idea has dried up and blown away overnight.
So if I can get 2500 words out of this, fine. If not, I’ll run it as long as it will go, and walk away when it’s done. I have some length to play with, and my editor will be happier if I run 100,000 words than 120,000 words. I’m the one who wants the longer book.
