736 words, and I have just discovered something that stunned me

I thought I knew who the romantic interests in this book were. I thought I had it nailed, that I was going firmly in one direction — and one of the main characters just threw me for a loop that has, in the moment that he did it, opened up a door to the potential of a story of redemption a book or two down the road that leaves me breathless when I think about it. It is exactly the story I want to write, and if the jerk in this scene hadn’t said what he said, and hadn’t acted the way he acted, I would never have realized where I could take the next book or two.

I’m so excited. I’ll have to make some changes in this book, but — damn. This is so cool.
