I was pleasantly surprised, since I was expecting around 700. Lauren is dealing with poor Jake’s gate-travelling terror; a major, major issue that relates to stuff that happened in the first book, so I won’t go into detail. I’ll do my best to avoid spoilers.
I like the way this is going. And I really, really like the fact that it is going. After two massive false starts, something that runs smoothly is a beautiful thing. [And I knock loudly on compressed particle-board product, summoning the mangled spirits of the wood within to have mercy on me for that bit of hubris.]
