1001 Words, and a Ghost

Write A Book With Me is back. I’ll move back over to Talysmana and start doing words on that at night again, but Tricia Telep asked me for a ghost story to go into her next collection (I’ve previously written for The Mammoth Book Of Paranormal Romance and The Mammoth Book of Time-Travel Romance for her).

I like working with her, and I enjoy the odd work of doing short stories, so in spite of my schedule, I told her I’d come up with a story for The Mammoth Book Of Ghost Romance (I may have the title wrong here–don’t hold me to it).

Anyway. I have to have it to her by the end of the month. I did 999 words last week, and 1001 tonight. I have 5000 words to go. So I’ll be writing faster than usual to get this done and still have time to edit it.

Tomorrow, I dig into the HTTS Walkthrough. Tonight, though, was for the sort of side project that just makes you grin.

Anybody still here with me? If so, how are your words coming along. I’ve missed WABWM.

No words this week, bummed about that. But, got a good start on alternate income source and I am marainating new idea/timeline for Bx2, which is good since I wrote myself into a hole. I can’t decide whether I need to go back to HRTYN to re-bbot my brain or Character Clinic …. or both. I think both.

    Hi all

Been sidetracked from my WABWM project by needing some paid work to cover a holiday I’ve booked visiting a friend in Ho Chi Minh City and cycling around SE Asia, so while I was hoping to have the revision finished by now, it isn’t! I’m on scene 44 of 56, but it will now go on hiatus for another month until I come back. Hoping the break will see me raring to go when I return…

Good to see a WABWM thread again. 🙂

No words, but finally making progress on alternate income. Would love to quit evil day job, but not to be destitute in the process.

I was wondering if you’d ever get back to T. 🙂 So glad you are. Take care!

Got about another 3000 words in this weekend, (my weekends are Monday and Tuesday) in between all the housework and grocery shopping. Really trying to get a good solid block of writing done every day and so far its working well. It’s not the motivation that’s hard for me, its finding the time when I’m off not to get buried in laundry and other chores. I just need to organize better.

      Hi Jessic@,
I don’t usually reccommend stuff, but for the sake of finding writing time…check out http://www.flylady.net. The home page is a little busy but it’s worth the read.

I’ve missed WABWM! So glad it’s back. I wish I had more to report… But life happens, I suppose.

I finished my book back in January or February, I can’t remember exactly when, and started typing it up, only to stop everything writing related for about a month and a half. I’ve just recently started typing again and so far only have 14k of the 120k typed up. I decided to change POV because the first person wasn’t doing what I needed it to as far as showing the world. Plus, it’s hard to detail a battle scene from first person. So that’s set me back quite a bit. Along with other big changes I’ve been jotting down in a seperate notebook. Once I got back into this whole thing I’ve noticed my story is lacking.

I’m glad your back. Seeing everybody’s progress really helps me put that extra foot forward.

Yeah! WABWM is back! Wrote 1014 on my primary project and another 598 during a word sprint with my online group on a project I abandoned a couple of years ago. A good night. Holly, hope you’re feeling better and thrilled that there may be more Talysmana soon. Right after all your other obligations!

Huzzah I missed WABWM a lot!

But I don’t really have anything to report. I was home for the holidays spending time with family and friends and now I’m back in Japan scrambling to get to work. The disasters here and personal stuff seem to have knocked the creativity out of me.

Understandable. Sometimes life kicks you in the teeth and all you can do is fight back.

Thanks, Danzier. Glad to see a fellow Castle-watcher on here. I know what you mean about keeping myself accountable. It’s crazy how much I’ll procrastinate.

It’s great to see you back at it. Talysmana was kind of on a cliffhanger, and I’m still waiting for the exciting conclusion!
Almost done reviewing my Gimmicks as I prepare for the cutting phase of the revision. It’s always a fun day when I get to play with the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle.
Thanks to the Character Clinic I’m getting a character interview that will not quit. I added another 1075 words to that. I just keep asking questions as we explore my female protag’s world together. Sometimes I have to tell her something about myself, to keep her talking.

Hey Holly, I am still here, and so very glad you are going to resurrect WABWM. I have been using a fiendish new software program to get my words out, called Write Or Die, and according to it, I have been averaging 1096 words a day. Not very good words, a lot of thinking out loud about what needs to be accomplished in each scene, but I am making progress, which is all that counts.

No words yesterday, the perennial garden I planted last year was calling to me, but I woke up today with the answer to why I was feeling so blocked yesterday.

So excited about being able to follow you on your walkthrough!

I’m still here 🙂 Glad you’re getting back into the swing of things.

I’ve been (very) slowly plodding along on my WIP, trying to write something every day, even if it’s only 10 words. So far this month I’ve only missed 3 days, and one of those was my niece’s first birthday party. I’m hoping to break 3 figures a day again by the end of the month.

I’m here, I’m here! During the hiatus I discovered I need the accountability of the WABWM boards or I will sit back and watch tv, or just tell myself stories without writing them, and then nothing gets done. Plus I miss all you guys!

Cassie, that’s my favorite show too! 😀 and way to go on the words.

I decided I would “sneak” in some words today just before my favorite show “Castle” came on and got 335 within 10 minutes, so woohoo! I’ve been restructuring my novel, and hope that the new HTTS “Walkthrough” will get me back on track. Looking forward to it. By the way, I love your idea for a desktop background with your project schedule on it. 🙂

Yay! WABWM is back. I can’t wait to find out what happens next in Talysmana.

I wrote 1,083 words on my MS today. So only about 75,000 words to go. If I can write about 1400 words a day, I can finish in early June, and then have the summer to revise and start on the sequel.

Holly, I have missed WABWM. I have still been writing, but this last month I have been feeling very scattered. I really need to focus again. I am still here with you and can’t wait to clear out the cobwebs in my brain and start writing. Glad you are back.

The short story sounds like fun. I am looking forward to WABWM. I am still working on Bx2, just had a brainstorm, duh, moment while at the vet with my cat. Ideas spring forth in strange places, huh? I also look forward to Talysmana again, I look forward to hearing how they get out of the mess they are in.

PS I got sidetracked for two months, trying to get back on track again. I have been so exhausted from day job that even getting up early, it has been hard to write. But, I still get up, turn on the computer and look at my notes, even if all I do is stare at them, clueless. 😎

I actually started doing WABWM while you had stopped and it’s completely changed my life (along with HTTS). I’m writing EVERY DAY again! I’ve basically not set a daily word limit (though I try to aim for about 500 a day), which is working better than I ever hoped. If I get words, yay. If I don’t, I don’t, and I don’t beat myself up. It’s amazing to be in the habit of writing like this. I’m 25% of the way through my book now, and I can feel my storytelling abilities improving as I go along. Anyway, I’m excited to keep going with this and I’m excited you’re back!

Revised my first novel and sent it out to betas last month and just started the writing on a new novel Saturday. So far, have a little over 3000 words, and now I have two days off, so I should be able to get some quality writing done. Unless, of course, that little thing called life gets in the way.

Started the first lesson of HTTS (Yay!) and can’t wait for more.

Very excited that Talysmana’s getting back on track, can’t wait to get another chapter.

I wrote an 1800-word erotic story for shits and giggles (it’s hilarious and not too crude, but I still doubt I’ll publish it under my real name…), and edited the first half of an unfinished story about treasure hunters. The writing wasn’t great, and during the first draft the story diverged RADICALLY from where I originally thought it would go. The flaws were bothering me, so I spent a day fixing them (rather than finishing the entire first draft and going back).

Plans for the future: finish the treasure hunters story, edit the erotica and send it off. Over the summer, I hope to start a fantasy novel.
