Dear Holly,
I’ve been writing all of my life. I have been seeking you out for advice for years now, ever since I found your website on Knowledge Hound. I’ve read and followed much of your writing tips, and they have always helped me through the tough spots. I’m ready to make the committment to my writing and all the risks that go with this leap. I am thrilled to join in writing a book with you. The 1st is a good day to begin anew. I wrote 300 words today and I am confident that I will finish this story this time and let it go at last.
Wrote a little over 400 words today on short story in progress. I’m using your ‘write the candy bar scenes first’ technique, Holly, and it’s FUN! With the words today I’m close to a third finished.
So I just picked up The Silver Door yesterday morning, and I finished it a few minutes ago. I immediately searched out your site to discover your plans for book III.
I can’t seem to find anything! I mean, I did notice that Silver Door was only very recently published, so I understand if you’re still in the process of catching your breath. Just curious if there was any work or thought going into #3 as of yet.
First post for me. I have a little more than 100 wordperfect pages of my fantasy genre novel finished. Like most of you, I have suffered the same problems – great ideas, brilliant beginnings…and then fizzle. And, like all of you, I was fortunate enough to find Holly Lisle. Using her plotting and world / character building techniques I’ve gotten this far without losing it all, and still have a grip on where we’re going.
Most of the website is thankfully easy to navigate, though I admit, I don’t know where this post is going – hopefully to the WABWM thread. When I’ve confirmed that, I’ll start posting word counts and little bits of information about both the book and myself.
I usually average between 700 – 1000 words, painfully extracted one at a time. I hope to finish in March / April 2010 timeframe, have it revised and out making the rounds by August.

I am 29,470 into my sixth novel. I’m trying for a thousand a day. I’ve given out your website to some of my students who are writing novels. We like to discuss different techniques. Thanks for all the hard work.

I started out with such good intentions, but just like always, I got lost not long after the beginning. I have a tendency to wander around like Moses in the desert, with no destination and no end in sight or mind. I too have been following your wonderful words of encouragement and assistance since knowledge hound, but apparently my head is too thick to allow the knowledge to penetrate. I refuse to give up on my dream but writing in circles is getting me nowhere.
