It’s Out There (The Ruby Key is Live)

by Holly Lisle on April 22, 2008 · 16 comments

in Books, Talyn, The Ruby Key, YA

I’ve been haunting the local bookstore, and THE RUBY KEY isn’t on the shelves yet, so it didn’t really dawn on me that people are already reading it.

But Tina already has a review up (and is giving a copy away), and I’m not ready.

I knit two pairs of Genna’s socks to give away, and they’re done, but not blocked, and I haven’t done certificates of authenticity for them or anything. At the moment, they’re just two teenager-sized pairs of woolly green socks.

If you spot the book, please let me know where you find it (in the store–YA, front of the store, in with the adult fantasy….I worry about where it’s going to land), and when it lands.

Meanwhile, I’ll get the sock stuff done for the giveaway.

I am torn between running to the bookstore as soon as I get off work or ordering online RIGHT NOW. I loved reading your journal and seeing the evolution of the book. And the cover… the cover! Love it. This one snuck up on me, too. I wasn’t expecting it to be out until May. So YAY for not having to wait til May.

A friend and I each picked up a copy at Powell’s City of Books, in the Middle Readers section.

Just so you know, Holly, you’ve made me break my “no books with cats as main characters” rule. And I’m not sorry. 2/3rds through and I’m really enjoying it! :D

I bought my copy last week. I think it was Thursday. I haven’t read it yet, but it’s in the tbr pile.

Amazon.de has the book in store.

I’m considering to send one to my nephew. It’s time he starts reading English books. He’s a bit over the target age but a big Fantasy fan, and an easier vocabulary level may work better.

I bought it from Amazon months ago and it arrived last week!! I’m having to read it much slower than I normally would because my allergies are wreaking havock on my eyes, but so far (as of chapter 4 or so), it’s fantastic! :)

Since I saw your post I figured I’d check when I went to work at Barnes and Noble, and sure enough we had one copy on the shelf in the Juvy Readers section. I think we’ll be getting more in for the actual release date. I, uh, bought the one copy, of course. :)

Alas, Atlantic Books didn’t have any copies so far. Not too surprising, but definitely disappointing.

Heather, we don’t have them yet, either. I’m just hoping the local store will get some in.

And thanks, everyone. I’m so excited that it’s actually out there.

Went to the bookstore last night, and found it in the children’s section on prominent display; they had a good-sized stack. I bought one for a friend, since I’d already pre-ordered mine from Amazon, and it arrived last week. :D

I first saw it in a Massachusetts Barnes and Noble a few weeks ago. It was in the front of the YA section, in a big ol’ cluster of new arrivals :-D

My B&N had four copies (now three, even though I pre-ordered through Amazon, and it hasn’t shipped yet–I’m sure it will make a nice gift ;).

Had a look for it at the only Borders around here, but it wasn’t in. I’m in Australia, so I’m guessing it either wasn’t released here at all or they haven’t ordered any in (common, sadly). I’d love to read it soon, so I may convince my parents to let me borrow their credit card.

Hope it’s going well!

Hi Holly,

I just got back from the Barnes & Noble in Huntersville, NC. I found a copy of The Ruby Key and couldn’t contain my excitement. I would have faced out any other copies, but I got the last one. It’s so beautiful! I don’t know how much input you had on the publishing details, but the fact that it’s written in purple ink is freaking awesome. Have a wonderful week!

Even though its months since Ruby Key’s release, I just found a copy in the donations here at my library (which is also where I work). I’ve read about 1/3 of the book, and I’m loving it! I’m looking forward to purchasing the next volume!

Noticed you mentioned knitting a pair of Genna’s socks. Are you releasing that pattern? I wonder if there is a book of knitting patterns inspired by stories and their fictional characters? If not, there should be- I think its a grand idea.
