Finished the First 200

Friday, December 31st, 2004

Finished the first two hundred pages of type-in, and I have a headache. Done for the day, done for the year. Will be back on the 2nd to finish this up. The third is a Monday — I’ll send this off then.
Have a safe and happy New Year.

Up by 2000

Friday, December 31st, 2004

Have somehow managed to add two thousand words to the book already today. LGD is now up to 89,000+ words. And I’m on page 118 of the type-in.

And on the Clapton Front

Friday, December 31st, 2004

Still working on the transcription of Clapton’s version of Classical Gas. I’m not good. Not good at all. But I’m almost not dreadful on the first two sections. Anything after measure 21? Faggeddaboudit.
Am also working on some baby Beethoven and a handful of graded studies — Carcassi, Aguado, […]

So … Today …

Friday, December 31st, 2004

Type-in. This should be a nearly brainless activity, where I go through copying what I’ve done by hand to the computer.
It isn’t.
I invariably find better ways to say things, clearer images to present, little fine-tuning twiddles that make the story run tighter. Mostly today I’ll just be typing, but […]

Line Edit Done

Thursday, December 30th, 2004

It took most of the day, but now I can start with type-in tomorrow morning. And I’ll have it done and to Claire on time.

Almost Finished with LGD Line Edit

Thursday, December 30th, 2004

Worked until about six PM yesterday, finishing 170 pages of manuscript line edit. I have thirty left for today, after which I’ll start type-in.
Here’s the hell of the thing. I have been over this now so many times that I genuinely don’t know if it’s any good or not. I’m numb. On […]

Line Edit Going Well

Wednesday, December 29th, 2004

Got 206 pages of the manuscript line-edited in hardcopy yesterday, rewrote the beginning (I like my results), sharpened dialogue, and added in depth for my two main secondary characters. Today, with 201 pages remaining, I face a more daunting task. This second half of the manuscript includes all of the first-draft material from […]

Whattya Gonna Do?

Tuesday, December 28th, 2004

Every once in a while, you find a quiz you must pass on. Here’s my entry into the “this is worth your time” race.
You are a GRAMMAR GOD!
If your mission in life is not already topreserve the English tongue, it should be.Congratulations and thank you!
How grammatically sound are you? brought to you by […]

Good to be Back

Tuesday, December 28th, 2004

Space heater on, cat on my shoulder, hot chocolate to my right. Printing LGD for a copy-edit and type-in — has to be completely finished and e-mailed to my editor on January 2nd.
I had a wonderful, relaxed vacation where, for the first few days I didn’t think about writing at all, and […]

And From Me …

Tuesday, December 21st, 2004

… without speeches about freedom and rights and the Constitution and all those fine things …
On this 21st day of December, this Solstice — hope the returning sun brings you good things.
