Finish number 30,558

Tuesday, April 30th, 2002

Yowza. Had a hard time getting started, but had to throw out an anchor behind me to get myself to stop. Hit the first big sex scene, and it developed a weird little twist that both made it perfectly logical and just a tad kinky. And it was fun to write. […]

Sticking to the resolution

Tuesday, April 30th, 2002

I’m having a hell of a time staying off the site. My “five minutes” promise to myself when I realized not going in at all was making me nuts has turned into checking the boards again. I can’t do that. I’m going to have to go cold turkey, with all the withdrawal […]

Introducing Alan — a brief, out-of-sequence teaser

Tuesday, April 30th, 2002

This segment introduces the hero, Alan MacKerrie, just as he’s left the ER where he tried — and failed — to save the first of the killer’s victims. This is his first contact with his next-door neighbor, Phoebe.

Start count for today, 28,408

Yesterday was a writing train wreck — 1149 words done on the romance (Midnight Rain, or MR). Nothing else.
Today my goal is just to get some more done on MR — 2000 words or better. I’ve found out that my editor won’t be able to read the revisions on Wreck of Heaven until […]

Last night, more research. Today …. ugh!

Monday, April 29th, 2002

Today the work gets heavy. Along with 2000 words on the romance novel, I have to start in on revisions on The Wreck of Heaven. I’ve given myself a couple of days to figure out how I was going to do them — now I have to put the plan into action. […]

Writing went well

Sunday, April 28th, 2002

Though I did end up with a short diatribe on the evils of milk products that’s probably going to have to come out. 2010 words — finish count is 27,259.
I wasn’t ready to quit, but it’s supper time. I might do some more on this tonight.

Hero and heroine now know they’re the targets

Sunday, April 28th, 2002

Today’s task — push them together in a situation where their options are steadily reduced and their danger steadily increases. I’m hoping to have time for the heroine’s point of view, a brief interlude with the hero, and a visit from either the villain or the ghost.
And I have the soundtrack for the book […]

Messed up my count, because I started counting at the wrong place.

Saturday, April 27th, 2002

Which is why a gross word count is probably the best way to measure a day’s work. It can get kind of hard to remember just where you started. Final gross count today — 25,249, after some additional writing when I found out I was short.
Total word count for the day of 2111.

2448 words, posted a bit late

2448 words, posted a bit late
Thanks to the folks in chat who jumped into the word war — got my 1500 there, to add to the words I’d already done for the day. Ended up with a nice number, an afternoon to just play around with research and maybe some revision plans, and a […]

A snippet from yesterday’s work, and today’s start count

Saturday, April 27th, 2002

Start count for the day — 23,138. Ready to get going. Have to deal with the body, and with the cops, and with the very unhappy killer.
And to give you a tiny glimpse at what’s going on, here’s a tiny clip from yesterday’s work. It’s a little rough, but I like the […]
