Worked Out the Bugs, and Cady Is Live

Hunting the Corrigan's Blood (reprint)I’m sending the cleaned-up, shrunken-down, revised version of HTCB to the three folks who ordered the first version before I could yank it down. For everyone else, Hunting the Corrigan’s Blood now ships at a lean and lovely 1.4 MB file size, is optimized for print for folks who want to save paper, and is also bookmarked for the daring souls who want to read onscreen.

Slightly revised the cover — the improved tagline is “Not every secret should see the light of day ….”

Still have to figure out what to say about the book itself. But it’s there. It works. And I’m so happy.

And on HTCB, and Hawkspar

Got most of the rest of the edits on Hunting the Corrigan’s Blood done today. I should be able to have the book available in the next day or two.

In other news, got the revision requests for Hawkspar from Anna. They’re significant. So I’ll be working my way through them over the next few weeks. I’ll print off a copy of the manuscript tomorrow and start digging in. Anna made smart observations–fixing the problems she found is still going to be a lot of work.

It was a good work day, though. Am also working on one of my worldbuilder’s worlds. Fascinating stuff.

Email Is Down From the Shop and Affiliate Sites

As far as I can tell, this is the only glitch, but since this is the first of March, affiliate payday, it means I can’t send out the newsletter. So for this month, I’ll post it here, as well as on the Affiliate Support Board.

MARCH HollyShop Affiliate Update

AFFILIATE OF THE MONTH
———————-

Congratulations to Monica Jackson, (http://monicajackson.com/blog/), who, as Affiliate of the Month, receives a $7.00 bonus. Monica linked a personal recommendation for both Character Clinic and Way of the Cheetah through her weblog, and got her traffic through this, plus a one-line recommendation in a post. Her site gets a lot of traffic; this approach worked for her.

Thanks, Monica!

Be sure to stop by the Affiliate Support board (http://shop.hollylisle.com/salesteam/) to congratulate her, get ideas, and offer suggestions on encouraging readers to take a chance on e-book purchases.

TEAM UPDATE
———————-

February was a slow month for the shop (and hence, for affiliates). I ran into snags transferring the Cadence Drake novel HUNTING THE CORRIGAN’S BLOOD to Word, and am still laboriously manually editing my way through it, line by line, taking out all the hidden code that was screwing up the production process. So we didn’t have new sales for that to boost things.

I’m going to offer a $2-Off discount when I put it up, though. $1 off HTCB and $1 off Lazette Gifford’s MUSE to people who buy both. I’m hoping that will get readers to take a chance on Zette’s book and on e-book fiction in general.

I’ll start working on Worldbuilding Clinic once I get HTCB debugged and posted, too, so there will be that to look forward to in the near future, too. And I’m hoping to have more professional authors write e-books on writing, too; Sheila has done really well with hers so far.

That’s it for February.

Hang in; March is looking brighter already.

Cheerfully,
Holly

Onward, Brightly

Heard from Robin yesterday that she liked the proposal, and had sent it straight on to Claire. This never happens, so I’m hoping the fact that it did this time is a sign (no, make that SIGN) of good things to come.

I’m still doing the HTCB manuscript slog. I’m reacquainting myself with the world at the same time, and envying the younger self who wrote that book. The tech and the set-up keep taking me by surprise; I had a lot more in there than I thought I did.

It’s clear to me that I’m going to miss the hell out of my worldbuilding notes for that book.

And that when I get back into Cady II, I’m going to have to take really, really good notes. ‘Cause, damn, it’s not fun having to scramble through older books for details on the way things work.

And Another One Bites the Dust

The proposal for a possible next suspense novel went out to my agent about ten seconds ago. Took longer than I thought possible to finish the revision, but on the up side, I like it a lot, and I’d love to write the book. It deals with a different level of relationships than the previous novels, maintains the light paranormal element, and has a nice mystery and a bit of bloodshed involved.

Now, on to the e-book version of Hunting the Corrigan’s Blood, so I don’t make myself crazy waiting to hear something.

Sorry About That
avatar

It’s been a while.

I apologize for the unplanned absence. One sinus headache extended into about two weeks of them as our weather went from below freezing to mid-80s and back, with days of rain alternating throughout; during that entire time, I was managing about one to two hours of work on the days when I could work at all.

Yesterday and today, I’ve been fine. Got a lot of catch-up (non-writing) work taken care of yesterday, and today I set up Lazette Gifford’s Muse to go on sale as the HollyShop‘s first Fiction Pick. It will be available in e-book form either today, or in the next couple of days, depending on when the file passes its final okay.

Now I’m working on the revision of the EMT proposal for Claire. It’s coming along pretty well, and I’m hoping to be able to send it to Robin today. If I do, tomorrow I’ll get back to work on the e-book version of Hunting the Corrigan’s Blood. And then, back to Cady II.

It’s good to be working again. Hell, it’s good to be able to look at the screen for more than a few minutes at a time again.

Off Hours
avatar

I’ve been up since 3 AM. At the moment, I’m writing on the proposal for Robin (and Claire), after that, I’ll work on the e-book version of HtCB, then I’ll move on to Cady II, and after that, see if I can wrap up the crit I’m currently working on.

My work hours are all screwed up, mostly because my sleep hours are all screwed up. This has been playing havoc with my productivity, but I’m trying this today to see how it goes. Three may be my new off-to-work time. (But I hope not.)

The proposal is coming along nicely, anyway.

The Writing Ducks Go Marching
avatar

Got things organized. Know what I’ll be doing for the next couple of weeks.

First, I’ll be finishing up the wire-bound paper version of Create A Character Clinic. I have to correct the typos readers have spotted (the corrections will go into the .pdf version, too), and do back cover artwork.

Second, I’ll be editing Hunting the Corrigan’s Blood and doing a reprint of it, both in .pdf format and in trade paper.
Hunting the Corrigan
It was a Locus bestseller and received excellent reviews the first time around, and if it generates interest and a positive response the second time, I intend to pitch new books in the series to my agent.

And, third, I’ll be putting together a more complete proposal for the second EMT book for Claire. I have a brief one with my agent right now, but I’d rather go in strong the first time, and that deserves a strong first pitch.

It’s good to have a plan.
