Cover for Bones of the Past — Painting by Larry Elmore
The cover artwork for Bones of the Past is by Larry Elmore, and I had the pleasure of talking to him a couple of times while it was in progress. We discussed Klaue architecture (you can see an example behind Nokar the Librarian, Medwind Song the Hoos warrior, and Seven-Fingered Fat Girl in the itty-bitty loincloth), what the folks would be doing when they discovered the ruins, and even the weather at the time.
I sent him a sketch of Hoos garb which he used in dressing Medwind. We also discussed sajes and what they wore. This is one of the real delights of writing that you rarely get to hear about: Artists take your words and create beautiful works of art from them. And sometimes you get to talk with the artists and shape, even in some small way, a work of art.
This is a thrill, and it doesn’t dim with time.
