Before I Make Massive Changes … — 33 Comments

  1. Mmm… yeah. Almost forgot. Looking forward to seeing those recipes for magical socks you mention over on that “whole site” list…

(I’m still in awe at your creativity in making knitting part of your daily work, lol.)

  2. The e-mails are from a comment subscription plugin that you may or may not have installed. Check your plugins list and look for one called something like Subscribe to Comments and turn it off. I’m not sure if you actually have it installed though because the subscription manager page that’s supposed to come packaged with the plugin (and linked through the “manage your subscriptions” link below the comment box) isn’t working.

AJAX commenting is just a fancy way of reloading the comment list without reloading the whole page.

  3. As noted before, the colors on the template were stock, and are going. This includes white background and orange header. I killed the slider; it was causing perpetual loading for a lot of people. I killed AJAX commenting (anyone know what that is?) because I suspect it of being at least partially responsible for folks getting a whole bunch of comments as emails in their inbox this morning. I’m still doing type-in, and I don’t have the time to mess with any more of this today, but I did want to let you know I’ve addressed the main functional issues, and will get to the cosmetic stuff soon.

  4. I get the perpetual loading on the slider bar at home, too. It loads fast and clean here at work on IE 6, but at home, the site is a fairly slow loader, all things considered.

  5. Yes. I’m running FireFox on RedHat’s Fedora Core 3 linux and I have no problems with it.

On a personal note, I am not crazy about the red/orange color used in your banner, I never liked those colors, so that is just my opinion.

Otherwise, this is a nice clean template! Very nice job!

  6. OK, I didn’t notice the slider bar before. Now that I read about it, I can’t get it to work– perpetual “loading”. Both computers, both browsers. I’ll give it a try again tomorrow.

  7. I love the new layout. And I love the orange! Miss your seasonal color changes over on FM. I think they use the same layout since you left! ;)

  8. I opened up Opera just to try it. It showed up fine, But it wouldn’t let me log in. It would flip and not show me as logged in. I went back to Firefox (latest release) and logged in just fine.

  9. Yes, it it a might small, but I can live with that. Question, though— are all those quotes your collection, or did they come with the template? They’re great.

  10. It works on Internet Exploder (at least on mine; we’ve figured out before my IE is too scared of me to not work, lol), but the script is a bit small.
