I have not started writing today and currently it is 4:14 PM. For some reason the words just won't come out! Hopefully they do soon. Yesterday I did so well...I don't want to fall behind with Nano today!

I'm not writing a novel at the moment, and neither am I participating in NaNo. I participated in NaNo a few years back with great success, and I wrote and finished a short novel (about 60,000 words) in about 45 days (from the last week in August to the middle of October).

On November 6, while trying one of several techniques outlined in Damon Knight's book, CREATING SHORT FICTION, I came upon a wonderful idea for a short story. I've been working on the outline for it over the course of the last 4-5 days and finished it last night. The scenes are, I'm sure, outlined in greater detail than is needed for a short story, as it runs about three pages. This being a short story, I'm not expecting it to run much more than 7500 words (roughly 30-35 manuscript pages).

I expect to get started on this tonight, and to finish the first draft in 7-10 days.

I hope you don't mind my sharing my progress with a short story, since your purpose is to have others write a novel with you, Holly, but after recently finishing a novel, I felt the need to take a break from the longer form and to work on something shorter.

No words. I went to the clinic yesterday... I have H1N1.
Good news is my 3 day fever of 103F (39.7C) finally broke sometime last night. So it looks like the meds are working. And now I'm off work for the week.

And thank god for mother who deliver home-made soup!

4,000 words of pure, unadulterated drivel. I'm heartened to know there's no adultery going on in this story, but that's about the only good thing about it.
